Here’s a look at 2 grips that use your feet. We don’t use our feet much as beginners, however, I feel it’s helpful for you to understand these concepts. Even if we don’t use them yet. Just like with our hands we can use a push or pull action to create resistance against the pole.

Push – Here you’ll be using the pad/ball of the foot and also gripping onto the pole with the toes. You are NOT just using your toes by themselves. Imagine squeezing the pole with the ball of the foot and toes just as you would your hand, while pushing into the pole at the same time.

Pull/Cup – This grip is not as common but it can be useful at times. Unlike the Push grip, this requires the pole to run along the arch of the foot. You’ll pull into the pole with the whole foot, so a strong toe/foot point can be helpful when using this grip.
