    Hey!
I’m kinda new to pole dancing, and any advice would be appreciated! I’m getting really dizzy/nauseous when I do spins (on a static pole). https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_puke_r.gif I’ve tried spotting like you do in other dance forms, but it doesn’t quite seem to work with pole dancing! Does anyone have any tips? I hate having to cut practice sessions short! Also, is the X-pole supposed to turn like a 1/4" back and forth when it’s in static mode? I made sure the screws aligned with the little engraved X’s and everything… Thanks for your help!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Hi lisa.. i had the same problem when i first started.. i felt like i had to vomit all the time, but the other girls here gave me some good advice: first of all, don’t do spin after spin after spin. do some dancing or stretching in between spins, and try to spin in both directions. Also, chewing on peppermint gum or drinking gingerale helps. Treepoles also suggested putting a ginger root in your water, and sip on that occassionally. And don’t worry, after a while your body adjusts to it, and you will soon feel less and less sick every time you pole.
About your pole- if you’ve aligned the little x’s at the bottom with the holes, then you just need to tighten it at the bottom (where you change it for spinning mode). that happens to me occassionally too, and tightening it fixes the problem. it shouldn’t rotate while on static. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

    Good advice from Azriel https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Just to add if you dont have a problem with travel sickness tablets take one of them a little while before your session. A friend of mine does that whenever she’s going to play on spinny. But as Azriel said your body will soon get just to it.

Why not try multidirectionalising – learning your spins on both sides. That way you can counteract the dizzy effect a little.

    hi!
yeah, ginger root is excellent for nauseousness. you might also avoid salty snacks. salt makes your body retain water and which can also disrupt your inner ear equilibrium making you dizzy… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_shaking2.gif

Guess I’m going to have to put away those chips, dangit https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
Thanks for the pole tip too, azriel! You were right about the screws not being tight enough, and now my pole is nice and stable! I’m afraid of getting my Xpole too tight anywhere, what with the horror stories I"ve heard about people’s poles getting stuck!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
