Posted by Deirdre on February 23, 2009 at 7:34 pmOk, I know this is VERY basic, but I’m having issues doing it with one hand! I’ve seen girls on vids holding on with one and and using the other to hold their bodies away from the pole, but I’m wondering if I just need to keep working on the muscle build up, or if you girls actually change your grip a little from when you hold on with both hands. I can do the open front hook (sorry if I got that wrong!) one-handed, you’d think I could do this too!

I had this problem to when first started doing it I built strength over time and now have no problem Can’t do it on left side yet but am working on it I would say just keep practicing Use a loose as a grip as possible with bottom hand I’m sure you’ll get it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

we get our girls used to one handed moves by getting them to spin on their strong side while holding a cleaning towel in their supporting hand.
I also get them to hold their hand about 1cm away from the pole, so they can grab it if they need to, after a few turns, they’re spinning one handed no worries.
however, aerials do need a bit more strength. Can you do one handed princess or goddess (variations on the front hook)? These will help too.

To strengthen grip and shoulders you can also do what I call POLE UPS haha. this will also help prepare you for climbing too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

Keep the inner arm very straight, without hyper extending the elbow joint and reach up quite high, even on tip toes if possible.
Ensure you’ve done this just before you lift off as it helps you with sliding down the pole.
place your other arm across the body about navel height (just under the "puppies" ) and use that arm to steady your self.I have issue with this move and can get around the pole once; others can swing out quite far, so it is, as Veena said, all about strength. Pole ups will help.
Not being a svelte little thing ensures I have to be very sure of myself doing moves, this is how I learned this move and how I continue to teach it.
