HARDWOOD OR TALL POLE??
If you had to choose between the two, what would you pick??
Hardwood floors BUT shorter pole….
or
12ft pole BUT carpet….

I’d take the 12 foot pole!! I have hardwood floors and don’t like them for poling…you think carpet burns hurt! HaHa

ah! sorry, i’m in NYC where if you’re looking at houses, it means you’re buying!
this might sound crazy (and it depends on the thickness and nap of the carpet) but my friend put the click-together laminate flooring right on top of the existing carpet and it was totally fine. i actually didn’t know there was carpet under there until i was helping her move out and we ripped the flooring up (they nailed down little strips along the perimeter of the room to keep the edges down).

Thanks for the suggestion https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif the pressure of the pole wouldn’t work with that kind of flooring….I already tried to convince the husband of that kind of flooring when we first moved in LOL He said nope, the carpet is just to thick, so its not stable enough to put flooring over. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I have looked a many places and this house soooo close to perfect, just that damn carpet and boring location. Just trim the flooring so it clicks around the pole. then you wouldn’t have the base to deal with too…

Oh hardwood for sure!!!!! I LOVE floor work and you just can’t slink, slide and crawl well with rug…plus I am a hardwood kinda gal…I just can’t take rug…ripped all of mine up for bamboo except for our bedrooms LOL

I chose to put a standard sized pole in my den that has a very low nap sisal rug in it.
I could have chosen to put a taller pole in my front room that has hardwood. And while I would LOVE to have the taller pole, I absolutely did not want to pole on the hardwood at home.
My knees take enough of a beating at the studio on those wood floors. And I worried about shoes marring the wood.
But then again, I have the tall poles at the studio at my disposal, so I guess I’m not missing the height at home… -
I have been debating the exact same thing. Veena, is the rooms your considering on different floors like mine? I have hardwood downstairs with shorter ceiling and carpeted upstairs (with no nice wood beneath it) with tall ceilings. I’m having a hard time figuring out which room to use as well, esp since I don’t have much experience with pole dancing. I was trying to figure out about the temperatures b/c it can affect your grib as well thanks to your article:

What about making a large flat platform to put under the pole? I would think a large platform atleast 4ft by 4ft would disperse the pressure more. You cold cover that in a laminate or real wood if you wanted. I’d probably go with 1 inch thick ply would and cover it up. And you could always go larger with the platform. I think you can get a thicker plywood too.

i am about to have to move too 🙁 found a house i LOVE, 1/4 the price of the one i have now but this new one has 20ft ceilings https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif now i need to figure out what kind of pole i can have that safely goes 20ft tall! the BF is buying this one for us & he has already agreed to me doing whatever i want when it comes to pole placement 🙂 i'm taking the 20ft living room for sure! lol! i want 2 poles installed, one static & one spinner. i have a 9ft spinner now.
anyone know where i can locate some safe 20ft poles? i would like for them to be permanent too 😉

12 ft pole with hardwood pad underneath as others have suggested. I cannot, cannot, cannot dance on carpet. OMG, the rug burns!!
