I’ve been going back and forth to the Doctors for about 6 months trying to find out what’s wrong with my feet and why am I always in pain. I haven’t talked about it too much on here because 1) I hate to sound like a winey cry baby complaining about my feet all the damn time and 2) I didn’t want to sound like a winey cry baby https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

It has been affecting my pole dancing somewhat because they hurt badly when I walk and I can’t point my toes without my foot cramping up. Wearing heels for more than a song or two is impossible, unless I time my pain meds to kick in right when I need to have them on LOL. I couldn’t even stand through my whole workshop with Alethea Austin during the USPDF weekend. I always have to sit whenever I can. It’s affected my job because I’m a nurse so I’m on my feet most of the day, then my kids keep me moving all evening. I cook dinner with a stool in the kitchen so I can sit whenever there’s a chance. When my Dad came to visit and wanted to go see the sites in D.C. I couldn’t go because it was just too much walking. And it has been getting worse and worse. I wake up to them throbbing and I have to take pain meds just to stand long enough to do my hair and makeup in the morning. The other day I actually slide down the stairs because my feet were numb. I had to stop running completely (a sport I love and have been doing for years) So anyway…you can see how it’s affecting me. I’m a super active person and this pain is really slowing me down and damn it…it just plain hurts!

So I saw a podiatrist who shrugged and told me absolutely nothing. So I got a second opinion and my new guy is the bomb. He ran every test you can think of and I finally got some answers.

My feet are extremely flat now. I had arches when I joined the Army and none by the time I got out. Thanks Uncle Sam.

I pronate very bad. My ankles kind of roll in so I’m walking on the inside of my ankle actually.

And this just in…I’ve got stress fractures in both of my feet!

Fine. All those things I can deal with. I have to find some kind of way to rest my feet to allow the stress fractures to heal. Maybe I can get some sort of lightduty desk job at work or tak some medical leave.

I might need to have surgery though to repair my arches and that’s not cool at all. I’ll be totally out of commission while I recover and that means No pole????

God I hope not. I can’t see myself just sitting around and not poling and I still want to do my Competition in February https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

I don’t want to lose my strength. I can probably still weight lift while I recover but I’ve been trying to picture ways I can still pole with casts on my feet LOL. We’ll see. If I absoluetly need to skip the comp for surgery I will, but damn. I don’t want to lose my progress and go backwards and have to start all over. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

I have to follow up with my doc to talk about all these new results and see what the next step is https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

You may be a pole dancer if you have to have surgery and all you care about is how it will affect your poledancing LOL. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

I’ve wanted to ask about your feet like 300x, but unfortunately I didn’t want to sound like a nosy busybody.

That’s good that you have reasons for the pain and solutions! Ballsuck that the solutions include staying off your feet forever, though. How new or old do the stress fractures look?

and if it does come down to poling with casts- please do leave the camera on. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Awww….I’m sorry to hear that you’re in pain.

I know the prospect of not poling for a while is daunting. If you are out for 8 weeks or less, honestly, you don’t loose a great deal of muscle memory. The strength drops quickly, but it’s easy to regain. So no real worries except not having that outlet.

And think of how sweet your moves will look with pointed toes! It will help everything in the long run.

(I agree heartily with leaving your camera on if you pole with casts. That would be AWESOME to watch – though, likely not recommended. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif )

Hey sissybuns! I used to be a Podiatric assistant. I also developed flat feet and suffered with those problems! The podiatrist I worked for doesn’t recommend that surgery, he made me custom orthotics and I’ve been good ever since…I can’t wear heels for really long periods of time but I don’t have the pain anymore..have been in orthotics for 10 years now, I have them checked periodically and adjusted as needed. Good luck whatever you decide to do…I totally can relate to what you’ve been going through!! *HUGZ*

Feel free to ask, LOL. I wouldn’t think you were being nosy. Just concerned! LOL
The report didn’t specify how old and new they were but I have been running for awhile so I’ve probably been getting them over and over forever.

And you best believe, if I get casts…I will definitely flood you guys with casted pole vids! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I’m actually excited to try that…LOL.

I do look on the brightside. No pain and pretty pointed toes! That alone makes it worth it! I’m glad to hear I won’t lose much muscle memory after a couple of months. That makes me feel a lot better https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I’m gonna be a handicapped pole dancing mama! I’ll make those casts sexy…somehow…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

    Hi Lilbit,
Orthotics were the first thing I tied and no luck. I got a new prescription made yesterday so when they are done in a couple of weeks I’m going to try again.

awwww that sucks, I hope you don’t have to have surgery. I can’t imagine how a foot problem would affect your life and pole dancing too! All these things we take for granted….I hope they can get it figured out for you. Have you looked into some alternative medicine? If you do have to have the surgery we can do a pole challenge where you have to stay up on your pole and can’t touch the ground, just for you. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif

Sorry to hear you have been going through so much with your feet sissy, must have been pretty bad to get stress fractures!
I’ve just come off a stint working rehab in our orthoaedic ward and saw a few surgeries to feet and arches, let me tell you they are NOT to be taken lightly, its quite major surgery. I also work with loads of children with flat feet, and we usually get pretty good results with exercises and/ or orthotics (although theirs will be more flexible usually as they are still growing). I’ve just recently made a patient info leaflet on pes planus with all the exercises in it if you want I can send it to you?

That SUCKS! Sorry you have to go through it – but you have a great attitude – hope you don’t need surgery – and hope you can still compete – but hope most of all that you heal properly and that this does not go on forever!

Oh Sissy that sux! I’m glad you have answers though! It’s really frustrating to know something is wrong and not know what to do about it. I was having foot pain about a year ago and did a bunch of test and never found out anything. I eventually just stopped doing everything unless I had to and in a few months the pain went away which was lucky. I’ll cross my fingers that everything works out quickly and relatively easily.

Hey, I’ve got some pain in my life, too. I’ve got Patello femural syndrome…which basically means my kneecap doesn’t sit right due to my quads being imbalanced, and it and the femur (the big thigh bone) rub together. I could eventually end up without a kneecap, though I doubt it’ll happen. The pain was so bad by the time I was in grade 11 (about six years ago, or so) that I could barely walk, and bending to sit down or pick things up from the ground was practically out. Couple that with not being able to come close to touching your toes, and there’s quite a gap of space that I couldn’t reach!
But, that aside, I know how it is, not wanting to complain because you feel like you’re just whining. But you’re allowed to whine! It’s okay, we want to be there for you…obviously, considering all the people who are sympathetic!
So, I’d say do what you can…but if it’s for your better health, get the surgery, do your best to do other exercises, and get going on your pole again after!

I have looked into a couple of things. I think I want to try accupunture and Roxy suggested something called Aqua-Chi to me. I’m trying to find someone near me that does it.

I’ll be looking for that no feet touching the floor challenge! LOL

Awww Sissy, You don’t need to suffer in silence!! I can’t believe you went so long without answers while you were in so much pain. I had no idea you were in pain at the workshop. You did great! Anyway, taking a break won’t be that bad if you do get surgery. I broke my hand a few years ago in a bad car accident and I was SHOCKED that even though I couldn’t work out I A) didn’t gain any weight and B) didn’t lose much muscle strength. You gotta take care of your feet, they are the foundation of your whole life. I think you could still find a way to pole even with a cast on. You could even draw the outline of a high heel on the side of the cast! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
