I can do a sit, and that thing (I’m about to get dead technical here) where your upside down in your basic invert, let go of the pole, walk your hands forward, hold on with your legs, take one leg off the pole, let the other slide down it as you move forward.

The sit was really bizzare – I’d been practicing the last few weeks and been finding it really difficult. Lots of inner thigh bruises and such. So I climed the pole to do the ankle lock release (dunno if I got that right, when I do this I never climb high enough to go into a headstand)so I climed quite high up and instead of swinging one leg ontop of the other I locked my legs behind the pole and hoked one ankle round the pole and the other foot behind that. I can’t remember why I let go but about half a second later I realised that I was holding on with no hands! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif I went into my ankle lock release and still didn’t get that right but I can do a sit! YEY https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif Go me!

The invert! I was knackered and I thought I’d try the invert anyway ‘cos I was buzzing from the sit. I usually manage to get upside down but find it difficult to get my hands to slide down the pole. I’ve tried loads of things like pushing myself futher up the pole on the way up, lowering my grip etc. But because I was tired (and this is another time I wasn’t paying attention) I let my hands slide ever so slightly whilst my legs were getting into position and I managed to let go. Going into a handstand with all my weight on my shoulders was difficult – my legs haven’t quite got the grip yet so I am sliding. But i did manage to walk forward enough to let one leg down and the other slide up. My rise from that is less sexy pole dancer and more 18mth learning to walk but hey! I managed it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

There is a theme developing where if I don’t think about it too much I manage it. A few of the more delicate spins where co-ordination is essential e.g. the corkscrew, the princess (is that the one where you spin round facing the pole with your legs in a v?), I can’t do if I think about it. I either end up pulling my arm out my socket, or my knees end up a lovely shade of purple.

    Does anyone else have this?

Good for you! That is awesome! I understand what you mean. Sometimes I get really frustrated w a move after practing and practicing it. And then when I stop worrying about it and give it a little break, the move will just click the next time I try it. I think, sometimes, it may be muscle memory catching on.

congrats nova!!!!!!! that’s fantastic!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif it had to have been such an incredible rush when you got those moves!!! im the exact same way, if i start thinking about a move too much before i do it, i sort of get paralyzed by fear or being too technical, for me its best if i let my body do the thinking instead of my mind with some of the moves. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

yay yay! arent you glad you have a place where you can be excited about new moves and other people share the excitment with you because they know what its like? whenever i get a new move i tell my boyfriend and hes like "ummm thats great honey but i have no idea what youre talking about! but great job anyway!" hehe. and yes i find if i am pushing myself to really get a move i have trouble with it…and if i forget about it or just try it when im goofing around and not expecting to get it, sometimes it will happen. congrats!
