Anyone do anything else to help w/pole?

Im training for Ms Xpose and I dont want to be in class that often b/c I dont want to find new moves and then try to work them in my routine and then it becomes a mess. My time is limited between working and being a mom. I really need the abs, I do the arms every day by doing push ups against my bathtub in the morning while I wait for the water to heat up. I really want to win a catagory this year and make it to the finals!

Awww!!!! I want you to win one too! Well me and you. I want us both to win one LOL. I’m only doing pole princess so let me have that one, LOL.

I lift weights and I looooooove it. It really helps with building up strength for pole but sometimes it’s hard to find a good mixture of the two. I have a pretty decent routine down now, but it took me awhile to figure out how to blend the two.

I love love love Oxygen magazine. Every month there are different workouts so you never get bored. Even on their site there are lots of really good training tidbits.

    Oxygen Training

I am also an exercise TV junkie. I have free exercise on demand on my cable and they change up the videos just about every month. You can also download a ton of videos from their site for $2.99. Just found one that I used to like but they got rid of it on the air (it was called KBC-kickbox, booty, core and in 20 minutes I was ready to melt into a heap on the floor). Ooooo….just found my other favorite! Incredible Abs.

I know these are older but something like turbo jam or tae bo will help you build endurance along with tone. Each of those have 20 minute workouts that even the busiest person can fit into their day.

I have the ondemand, ive been using that to try new things. Ive got a yoga, pilates, ballet training and Yoga Booty Ballet DVD’s. Thats how I disovered the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have thier own workout video. (eeewwww, im a Redskins fan, but im willing to do thier work outs!)

Ive got no problem working out at home but due to the space of our home, I have to wait until the kids go to bed. Im also creeped out when my husband watches me workout. So I either make him get out of the house or go in the other room.

I also thought about heading to the local indoor pool and swimming laps for a bit. I lost alot of weight when I was swimming.

the only thing im praying for now is a crappy record to get 1st pick in the draft – Come on Tebow! I figured my sons name would give away who my team is (ok, more like fan by default but still), hes named after John Riggins from the early 80’s.

Ill keep the Cowboy bashing down to a minium https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

i bought a reebok weighted exercise ball a few weeks ago and ive been doing the 30 minute workout routine dvd video on the nights that i practice chair and floor stuff…..ive seen a fantastic difference in my arms, they’re getting so cut and i sweat my booty off when i do the exercises….but maybe thats because i wear sweats, a sweatshirt and legwarmers to get my muscles warmer.

I personally do the following…pole (duh), eliptical 2x’s a week for 1 hr each, resistance stretching (no set schedule but as often as i can), lots of calisthenics….If I could get paid to work out I would…I wish I could do it more…if I could I would do it all day! I’m seriously thinking about getting a PT cert just so I can do that as a side job..hehe

I was thinking the same thing too! My husband is a former cert PT, so I always go to him for advice and workout tips. If I ever get around to joining that darn gym, he wants to set up my work outs for me.

    My training routine:

Pole 3 times a week (every other day) for 1.5-2 hours, including a long warm-up.

On all days I am not poling I do 45 minutes on the elliptical trainer increasing resistance every 4 minutes, going forward and backward, and changing the incline, followed by shoulder exercises (rotator cuff strengthening, etc), and finish with deep stretching.

I take 1 day off per week usually. It is important to give your muscles some rest sot hat they can rebuild and strengthen.

I feel like I barely have time to breath some days but… I try to cross train, I love yoga and I enjoyed lift weights when I first got into pole dance, but my gym equipment is in our garage now and its too cold, so I haven’t done any weight training for months. Yoga and Hoop are both quick for me to get in for a work out. I keep saying I’m gonna hoop again but haven’t…maybe today! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I really mix things up (maybe too much?), depending on how I’m feeling that week and how my schedule is, maybe thai boxing 3 x week + flex stretches (I train with the fighters so I get super fit https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif ), gym (cardio/weights/deep flex stretching) 2 x week, pole 2-4 x week, then maybe a swim once a week (usually as an excuse to get in the sauna!)

I need variety in my exercise, its not that I get bored easy, just I think its important to not put too much pressure myself, if I don’t feel like poling I’ll go thai boxing, or if I don’t feel like thai boxing I’ll go to the gym, whatever, y’know?

I think a lot of people intimidate themselves out of exercise (i.e. if I don’t go to the gym 4 x a week I’m a failure so I might as well not go at all!), whereas cross training a load of different stuff you don’t even notice you’re working up a sweat (except in thaiboxing, my face turns purple and I spar in a puddle of my own sweat https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif )

I’m in a similar camp with Veena; yoga is the ultimate cross training and I love hooping (and poi) but I haven’t had the space nor inclination to go out in the cold. Since the pole went up in the living room there’s no room indoors but it’s probably for the best though as hooping inside is a destruction bringer. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/bom.gif
Bellydance is my first love though and great for cross training with pole dance because almost all exotic dance moves and floorwork are a modified form of bellydance. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_farao.gif

I mix things up a lot too depending on how I feel and I DO get bored easily, so sometimes I’ll train capoeira, kickboxing or one of the many kung fu styles. But my emotional catharsis is a liquid-pop/hip-hop style dance mixed with bellydance. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_DJ.gif
