Stretchmarks from poling?
Posted by Audball on January 26, 2010 at 7:06 pmOKay so i’ve only been doing it 2 weeks at this stage, but today I noticed new stretch marks on the inside of my thighs. I’ve had some stretch marks there for a number of years, but these are new ones that seem to go almost half way to my knee! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif
I actually remember someone mentioning to me that they got stretch marks from poling in friday chat but I didn’t really pay attention. But having seen them myself, i’m panicking, as I understand that stretchmarks don’t just disappear! I presume it’s from doing moves like the plank.
Is this common, and more importantly, is there any way I can prevent them?!Legend replied 14 years, 10 months ago 16 Members · 17 Replies -

ditto! I have both horizontal and vertical stretch marks! Thank you both kids and one being 11lbs at birth! Ive ben using bio oil and tummy butter on it. I know they wont fully go away but I just want them to be lighter!

Yup, sorry to break it to you honey, but I have awful stretch marks from poling! I suspect it’s partly to do with the size of my thighs and all that excess skin/blubber/whatever I’ve been burning off in the process… I’ve been using bio-oil for about 2 months and it does seem to help https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Oh yeah, I remember now you saying that. I don’t think it’s from losing weight though, as I havent lost weight in the last 2 weeks, and you normally get stretch marks from putting on weight (which I couldnt have done in the last 2 weeks either.. I hope!) Could it be from where the flesh sort of clings to the pole (in pole sit, plank etc) and pulls when you put weight on it? As soon as I saw them, I was afraid to try the plank again!
Need to get som bio-oil…!

I do a ton of pole sit/plank/CAR/Tammy/etc and have never gotten stretch marks! Interesting. I wonder if a predisposition to stretch marks is hereditary?

I hope i’m wrong! Maybe they will have disappeared today, but they definitely looked like stretchmarks.. how odd!

Oh my gawd!! Nobody wants more stretch marks!! I dont think I have any new ones from poling!

That sounds strange, stretch mark from poling…
What I would try is exfoliating all over with a bath poufy sponge each time you bathe or shower, this stimulates new skin cell production then moisturize with a lotion with Coenzyme Q-10 and/or collagen & elastin in it. This Bio-Oil stuff seems pretty promising aswell, I’ll be starting this routine quite soon and that’s definitly on my list of goodies to get.
Diet and skin complexion also matters, so drinking lots of water and eating heathy helps prevent stretch marks and helps them to fade after time.
Here’s a site I found useful when I wanted to learn more about them: http://www.allaboutstretchmarks.com/
I hope this helps, good luck https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

"Stretch marks are often the result of the rapid stretching of the skin associated with rapid growth (common in puberty) or weight gain (e.g. pregnancy, muscle building, or rapid gain of fat) or in some cases, severe pulling force on skin that overcomes the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dermis' elasticity"
Maybe it's from the "severe pulling force" from moves like plank, etc?
I notice crazy inner thigh skin pulling when I'm practicing plank, especially since my skin's so dry right now. hope it won't mess up my skin's elasticity!
Can you see a dermatologist?

Hmmmm I can't say i've ever heard of stretch marks as a direct cause of poling… and I spend a fair bit of time upside down 😉
You can most definitely get stretch marks from losing weight haha rest assured! Especially if you lose a bit and gain a bit and lose a bit and gain a bit. Your skin doesn't quite know what to do at a certain point. Short of moisturising, there isn't much you can do unfortunately 🙁
I have proof on my poor boobs and sides hehe
A cocoa butter moisturizer is always a plus! But not while or before you pole 😉

If you think you have blubber I'm DOOMED. I'll never have a toned tummy or thighs ever. =(

Hmmm interesting.. But it does make sense.
When I was learning the cross ankle release and cross knee release, I used to feel this staticky ripping of my skin feeling… And I always wondered if I was tearing or stretching my skin. I don't get that feeling now that I've mastered those moves..
I've always had stretch marks in between my thighs from when I used to be obese. If pole dancing gave me more, I haven't really noticed.
Isn't there something that pregnant women use to prevent stretch marks? I wonder if those creams will be helpful?

Stretchmarks are hereditary. Whether you get them from weight gain, pregnancy, or poling, the only way to avoid further stretch marks is to avoid whatever caused it all together. Or find a stretch mark cream or oil that actually works.

Unfortunately, i also get stretchmarks from poling 🙁 but they’re quite thin. If i squat they kind of look like striped cellulite… It sucks! I just hope that they wont grow into thicker ones… Does anyone know of they grow bigger? Maybe it also gets better when you get stronger and your grip doesnt depend so much on your skin anymore? Lets keep our fingers crossed for a cure 🙂

If I can suggest as well as bio oil, try using neroli oil. It's great for the skin's elasticity. Also if any of you guys are near a Lush shop try the Therapy massage bar. It is made of cocoa butter, neroli and lavender and worked wonders on the stretch marks I had on my sides when I lost weight.
I have some unsightly new red ones on my hips now, time to shed some pounds methinks (and by some neroli products!)
