Hot yoga

i’ve just started considering taking hot yoga to gain flexibility, strength and lose some weight. Has anyone tried these classes? What were your results and how many times a week should i go? I struggle with flexibility for my poling side, and added strength is always a plus. I just started taking bikram which is a specific type of hot yoga, but i love it. The heat with the stretching and resistance of yoga really makes me feel like i had a fierce workout afterwards plus it is great for the skin. It is helping with my back flexibility and hip flexors greatly.

Yes, I’ve taken Bikram yoga and hot vinyasa yoga. I would go more often, but to leave a building that is 105 degrees to go straight to working outside in 5 degrees…. I often lose the ambition to go!
BUT I would love to get there more frequently, any yoga is great for poling. Flexibility, coordination, balance, centering and calming the mind.
If you ever hear any yogi saying they don’t like hot yoga, its often because they believe you should create your own internal heat in your practice. I say if you like the hot yoga, do it, and do it as often as you can for the greatest results. I just met a lady that does it 5 times a week for the last 7 years!
They also say to go 5 times before you decide that you do or don’t like it, and keep the practices within a couple weeks.
Give it more time, I think you will get hooked from the sounds of it, esp once you see the results.

I’ve done bikram many times and love it.
It is REALLY GREAT when your muscles are super sore and tight and you just can’t get them to stretch out. The heat and yoga will get you back to normal. Also- I’ve heard that if you take bikram once a week for 30 days, it will change your life… I can’t afford that yet, but someday, I’ll do it! -

yay! i just signed up for a month. its not as expensive as pole.. thank goodness! i believe the method i am going to is the bikram. i don’t know what the differences are… everyone i’ve talked to about it seems to be interested and we’re actually getting a bunch of girls to go together next week. the local hot yoga studio over here offers a 2 month transformation challenge where you go 5 times a week for two months and watch the transformation. i am def doing the two months (i’m gonna try really hard to go 5x a week but with planning a wedding, moving and pole, i haven’t had as much time as i like)…i’m already signed up for one month =)

Yogi here. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I absolutely love hot yoga and am exploring all types. Bikram/hot26, hot yoga, and hot core flow. Now i am addicted! It increased my flexibility and endurance on the pole. I could hold pole moves longer and have a better control of transitioning from one pole move to the next. I don’t know if it’s from the peace of mind or the physical aspect… But it works!
I started with bikram yoga in NYC. It’s a set of 26 poses, all in a 95-105 degree room. I like it for starting out bc it’d like an introductory to a whole new world. Just that you can only further yourself so much. I.e. Yoga toe stand with no hands, complex lotus, and standing bow pulling into a standing split are your challenges.
Hot yoga has pretty much the same sequence but adds on their own style and focuses more on increased flexibility. Added poses like pigeon, lunges, standing splits, straddles, bridge/wheel, etc. I like it better because it offers more variety.
When you get advanced, go for hot core flow or hot core flow fusion. This is killer for even prof dancers. You do crazy stuff like lifted tolasana, three legged dogs, side plank, bird of paradise, one legged wheel, flow king pigeon, twisted lotus, etc. It varies every week, hence why i love it. Pushes your edge.
They say it’s best to go 3 times per week for the full effect. 4-5 times is a little too much, but if you can do it, go for it. 1-2 times is too little and you’ll feel the soreness, not receiving much benefits.

A guy I work with has been doing Bikram yoga for about a month now but already the results are incredible. He seems so trim already. I’m deffo interested in giving it a go, however, I only tried yoga for a couple of weeks a few years ago so basically have no experience even with non-heated yoga. Is bikram only for seasoned yoga go-ers?

Go for it! I’ve been to 4 studios and they’ve all been so welcoming to beginners. They really talk you through it and help you in the proper pose. With bikram, there’s different variations to each pose so you can take it lightly or very hard. They even encourage you to sit out a pose if you’re not feeling up for it.
Def give it a go. A lot of studios offer intros like unlimited 2-4 weeks for $25-100 or a couple free classes with your first purchase. 2 yoga studios near me are offering 10 classes for $100 so I’m taking advantage.
Also forgot to mention, it gets rid of the soreness after extensive poling. For a month, i did 4 hours in pole class on thursday, and could NOT wait to get to hot yoga the next morning. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif i was so sore and it goes away like magic.

Yeah give Bikram a try! I haven’t been going lately, but I went 4x a week all summer. It’s great for weight loss and allover flexibility (especially hamstrings, hips, and back). And you feel like a million bucks afterward. I actually love the repetition of Bikram yoga, but never found that it directly helped my splits. I also got frustrated with the lack of challenge and variety. I loved the heat, but I miss bird of paradise, inverts, crow, etc. Maybe I will start again over January https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I started Bikram yoga tonight…. WOWOWWWOWOWWOW!!! So hot and sweaty and there were parts where I wanted to die but I surprised myself by how much more flexibility I had once I was really hot. I can definitely get how this is beneficial when done consistently. I have 30 days paid for, it's some kind of 30 day challenge to see how many times you can go in one week. I hope that in 30 days I can write back here and say I went pretty consistently.
