I don’t mean to start a depressing thread but this is an issue I feel very strongly about and I wanted to bring it to everyone’s attention…a woman from Chicago was beaten to death in a case of domestic violence and her abuser happens to be a family member of mine. I am disgusted and embarrassed but I want to use this as an opportunity to make everyone aware of what a serious problem domestic violence is. I spent 2 years in a relationship with a guy who was verbally and emotionally abusive and would punch holes in walls and doors and I knew if I didn’t get out he would be punching me next. I’ve had conversations on this site with a few girls who were in abusive relationships and fortunately were able to get out of them but I know it is easier said than done especially when your life can possibly be in danger. But if you are in that situation please please please at least try to tell someone, I know my horrible cousin’s late wife would have wanted to spread the word about domestic violence if she was still around to do it.

Here are some resources if anyone would like to have it for themselves or to pass on to a friend:

That’s the the link to the article about Sandra’s murder, it makes me so ashamed I am related to this terrible person.

    love and hugs for everyone!!!

    Love and hugs to you.

Some times it is so hard to make that break, especially when the abuse is verbal and emotional. I urge anyone in this situation to just open up to someone who can help.

ok re-reading this post i didnt mean to make myself seem like a victim or anything i just wanted to share my experience so maybe it would prevent someone else from being in the same situation..and yes chemgoddess i totally agree sometimes it isnt an easy situation to get out of when it’s with a person you love or have children with despite their violent behavior!

Glitter- I love how no matter what the situation you always manage to use it as a way help others.

And Ladies please do get out of any abusive situation be it verbal, physical, psychological, whatever. Just get out! You don’t deserve to be made to feel like crap, you’re worth more than that. I’m thankful my sister (with the help of our family) managed to get herself and my nephew out of the abusive relationship she was in, but I worry everyday that she might go back or find someone worse because she doesn’t truly believe she deserves better. I know that no matter how many people say it, you have to come to the realization yourself but you need to believe that no matter what you’ve done in the past or present, you don’t deserve to be abused or put down or controlled or whatever and that people will be there to support and help you out.

I’m sorry for you and your family, Glitter… it’s hard when a family member passes away, but even worse when it’s at the hands of another family member… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

But yes, agreed entirely – thank you for posting this.

Hey glitterhips! TY for posting this…I was abused by my 1st husband for the last 6.5 of the 8 years I was with him. He was a police officer…I tried filing a formal report for assault, battery, and rape against him but his dept. protected him….it took me 2 years to finally be freed of him because no matter where I went he found me (my friends were terrified of him that he would plant something and bust them) I could go into more detail about what he did to me but I think you get the picture….I couldn’t get into a shelter back then because you have to have a child so I was totally on my own with that. I finally got away from him when I came to North Dakota…a very kind rookie officer that stopped me because I fit the description of a missing police officers wife let me go after I told him everything.

If your man has ever hit you and apologized even once…YOU NEED TO GET OUT! it is only the beginning. I applaud you glitterhips for your courage in sharing this important yet painful topic!! Love ya girl!! *HUGZ**

You know the saying what goes around, comes around (and vice versa)…well my ex hubby committed suicide in 1993…he left a note and the 1st paragraph was to me…saying ending his life was the only way he could stop hurting people and he knew it. He apologized for everything he ever did to me…not that it made it better, however knowing he finally admitted what he did was a comfort to me. Hun you and your family are totally in my thoughts and prayers…that could have been me years ago!

I’m so sorry to hear about what happened Glitter. I applaud you for taking this tragedy and turning it into a warning. I guarentee, there is a woman on this site, reading this right now that is in this type of situation or knows somebody that is. Hopefully she’ll take this thread as a sign and maybe reach out for help.

I’m glad that you posted this too Glitter! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif
I was also in an abusive relationship many years ago, and it’s such an incredibly difficult situation to leave. But reading, seeing, and hearing encouragement over and over from other caring women is a seed well planted.

I am so sorry for all of the family members affected by this tragedy. No woman ever deserves that kind of treatment. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif
I admire you for posting this despite embarrassment. I hope that Sandra’s case gets the justice that it needs. And that your/her message is heard by other women who need to get out of similar situations.
