I am also struggling with this move. How do you usually get into superman? I usually go into it from shoulder mount and so the hand that is holding the pole is lower than if you go into it from an invert to that hip turn down. You either need to bring the top hand up or lower down your legs. I seem to be unable to convince my legs to ease up off the pole and slide down https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I’ve only managed to do it once and hated it so much I dropped it so I haven’t tried again…Not very helpful but at least you know you’re not the only one struggling!

Thanks Fleur, it seems so much more simpler than it is! I am glad i am not the only one struggling with this one. i get into it from several moves… sometimes from basic invert, from SM, crucifix and sometimes from gemini/inverted pike. but i think my hand grip is always low no matter how i do it. i tried to loosen the grip between my legs to lower my body down, but i couldn’t seem to do it without sliding out of it. i guess its just a matter of practicing it until the my legs will cooperate w me!

Yay, I got this one! It turns out, all I needed was a little performance anxiety. LAst week I hosted a little pole jam, and whilst trying to show my friend how I was having trouble with it, I actually did it successfully! Haven’t had a chance to practice since but hopefully I’ll be able to do it again and I will post something here!

I’ve started working on this and just can’t seem to pull myself close enough to the pole in order to get my other hand behind the pole. I’ve tried dropping my legs down and even just practicing standing in position. Seems like either I don’t have enough strength to pull my body close enough to the pole to allow my other hand to grab the pole behind my head or my arm just doesn’t twsit/bend that way.

    Any suggestions

jeng- i’ve just recently started working on this myself, and have only done it a few times out of many attempts, so someone else will probably be able to help more than i can. Just wanted to tell you that my first attempts were just like yours- i felt like i didnt have the strength to even BEGIN pulling myself back towards the pole. But practicing it builds the strength that you need. You have to really reach back with the free hand, and it feels really really awkward when you do it! I have to strain alot to do it still, and i get pole burn on my thighs 100 times worse than i did with superman.. hopefully that will go away. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

Yes! it takes time to get used to. One thing I can say is helpful, is to drop your hips down and then pull yourself towards the pole. With time, it gets easier. I can get into figurehead now easy enough, but going from that into a shoulder mount is a doozy!! I am working on it though!

I’ve managed to get into the move with my hands behind my head but find just as I get into it my legs are no longer grasping the pole between my thighs. Do you have to have good flexibility in your back or elsewhere to get into this and hold it for a couple seconds before your legs come off the pole onto the floor or into a shouldermount?

I am really starting to hate this move! Why can’t I shoulder mount out of figurehead! why why why?? Sorry, this one is really starting to frustrate me. Seriously! WTH? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif

What about pulling back into that "Felix" move I did on Monday – so you’re armpit is hooked on the pole instead of your hands over head then take a breather then go into SM??

Yay, Roxy Pink!!! Congrats to you! Now you can work on shoulder mounting from there, which is where I am stuck right now! Hopefully, you will get it and then you can help me out.

Charley- Thanks for the tip. I think I did try that the other day, but it didn’t seem to help me. I am just too weak. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I could go into that and then into a regular air invert though. I may have to settle for that until I get some more ab strength. Oh well, I haven’t given up yet!

    Roxy!!! Congrats!!!!

Jenn – I know you can do this move!!!! It’s easier than inverting on silks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif

Can’t wait for next Monday – I bet if you don’t have it by then you’ll have it by the end of jam!
