Ballet Shoes?
Posted by MommaBear on May 4, 2010 at 12:13 pmI was thinking about getting ballet shoes to help me get used to pointing and also because the balls of my feet are taking a beating.
pivoting
+ sweat
+ bare-feet
+ wood floors
============
no good!I have never seen a pair of ballet shoes in the flesh, so I don’t know if they would work or be useless for poling.
Has or does anyone use these? What do you think?

It depends on what kind you are thinking on getting. Saying that you want something to help you with pointing makes me think you want pointe shoes. I would highly reccomend AGAINST that unless you have previous pointe experience. You can really hurt your feet (or worse! ) if you dont know what you are doing, dont have the proper muscle strength or get a poorly fit pair! That being said regualr ballet slippers would give you a nice pivot on the floor and control the sweaty floor issue! Another option would be a lyrical sandal. It only covers the ball of your foot and will also help pivot but give you a bit more grip than bare sweaty feet!
These are some really cute lyrical sandals! They even come in fun colors!

I hope this helped!XOXO

Aww, those are cute!! I never even knew stuff like that existed! Thanks for the link!

I swear by Foot Undeez. Capezio makes them, as do several other dancewear companies. They look like little tighty-whities when they’re just sitting there, but they do a great job of protecting the balls of your feet while still allowing you plenty of skin in case you want to climb, etc., and you can pirouette like nobody’s business in them.

Not a problem! Glad to help! They have gotten alot cuter since I was dancing! Ours were always nude or black. I really want the pink polka dotted ones! LoL!

I have basic black ballet shoes and I like them quite alot but foot thongs are better. I like the tops of my feet exposed – I’m a masochist https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
If you do decided to get soft ballet shoes, get them from a local dance shop so you can try them on. I tried on several sizes before getting the right size, and I still think I would have gone smaller.

Underwear for your feet – who woulda thunk it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
This conversation is going to go wonderfully, first I hit my hubby up for a $400 pole, another $40 for some used DVD’s and now I want feet underwear https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
As well as some:
1. Cute Pole Shorts – right now I am dancing in my undies
2. Good Fitting Sports Bras – I had a nipple make an appearance and had it grazed that sweaty, sticky pole, it would have been all bad!
3. Cute Stripper Shoes – just cause I want them and why not, they go so well with the pole
4. Maybe $100 or so a month for some lessons – cause I bet it is funner in a studio than by yourselfYeah, he’s going to be thrilled https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Momma…as for the shoes….Priscilla’s every year has a huge shoe blowout sale. I have been watching for it. I will try calling the store today and see if they have any intel. They have had some REALLY cute shoes in the past and I think they are all $19.99.
As for the sports bra, Walmart carries the Danskin brand of sports bras and they are only about $9. I like the medium impact ones (because they do not totally squish down what little I have) and have also looked at the high impact ones. I think I have them in every color that has existed over the last 2 years!!
Pole shorts: Again Walmart. Danskin has some that a few of the girls like (and they are right next to the sports bras). OP also has some cute teeny shorts out right now and they are like $5.
Can’t help on the lessons.

I’ve never heard of Priscilla’s? Put me on your call list if you get any good info!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
Walmart, I am all over that – I hate, HATE shopping, so I generally go to stores like Walmart and avoid mall stores. I do have a few pairs of booty shorts from last year (from good ‘ole Walmart) but they aren’t snug fitting so I end up with wedgies. I’ll have to check out their Danskin line.
If I can’t get me hubby to squeeze out some cash for lessons, do you know if Be or the other studio has like an "open session" type thing where you can just go and play?

Be does…not too sure about Cleveland Exotic. Not too many people take advantage of the one at Be though.
Oh, yeah…don’t forget:
Trip to Chicago for the jam in July/August
Extra $$ for workshops within neighboring states…there are some good ones coming up!
Trip to Columbus for the next Ohio Girls jam -

Yep, just bought 2 pairs of pole ‘shorts’ (we all know its sports underwear!)by danskin, I think i paid about 5/each. I would also suggest Soffe Shorts, they are the shorts the cheerleaders wear, if dancing in your panties makes you feel uncomfortable.
Back to shoes, I have a pair of pointe shoes. Ive used them in a video once. I did a few things on pointe. If you dont have any ballet background I’d advise against it. Its a hell of alot of work to do demi/grande piles en pointe. Whenever your sitting at home point your toes, eventually your body will get used to it. My toes just naturally point now since ive been dancing my whole life.

Chem – I dunno, those all sound like "big girl" events and I’m still trying to figure out how to pole sit https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I don’t think I would be able to participate in 1/4 of what they are going to do at workshops and such.
What is the trip to Chicago for?
Mini – I’m having issues with the point – my toes get all cramped up and spasm – where one toe flicks off the world and the others roll into your feet https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif I have very flat "Flinstone Feet", as my husband calls them . . . Yabba Dabba Do! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Mine get crammed in there as well. If you buy some lambs wool that will help w/’padding’ (Im using padding very lightly here). What about a dance sneaker? You can still point your toes in those, they are flexible. I used to have a pair of ballet slippers from many years ago from when I took dance in HS. Id try those as well. Go to your local dance shop and see what they might recomend. You never know, there may have been a poler there looking for the same thing you are.

There’s a good trick for avoid foot spasms from pointing your toes. Instead of pushing down / curling your toes to achieve the pointed look, try pulling the heel up. It engages different muscles, so your foot actually stays fairly relaxed while in the pointed position.

That is the exact same tip I was taught! I will also add that it works!
As for the jams…they are for EVERYONE.
Chicago….there is a group of polers that are trying to get together in Chicago some time in July. Dates are not yet set. There are some ladies that I have been chatting with since my first days (2.5 years….WOW) that are supposed to be there and I am very excited.
