Cool tip for quick lace boots
Posted by Masked Loopy II on June 6, 2010 at 8:36 pmIn my pole class today I was struggling to lace up my thigh high boots. They do have the side zipper, but every time I took the boots off, the laces popped out of the quick lace hooks. My instructor told me to lace my boots up (without my legs in them) and hammer the hooks closed. That sounded like a great plan. I couldn’t find a hammer, but I came up with something even better. I put the boots on, and lacing each hook one at a time, I pinched the hook closed with a pair of pliers. By doing it in this manner, I was able to make sure that they shaped nicely around my legs. I have one warning if you try this–Make sure you’ve laced in the correct pattern that you want. It’s hard to fix the mistake after you’ve closed the hook.

Awesome, because there are many times when I just go barefoot because I don’t feel like all the lacing drama.
Thanks!

Mine have done this on their own from climbing in them so much!

I know a really cool trick to help you lace the quick lace boots fast. I wish I had some boots to make a video and show you. My Daddy taught me how to do this while lacing his work boots back when I was just a kiddo. Instead of crisscrossing the laces each time you lace one set of hooks (lace two hooks, toss laces to opposite sides of the boot thereby crisscrossing them and lace next set of hooks. rinse and repeat. This is taking for EVER! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif ) try this method.
https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif Start at the bottom and put the lace into one hook. At this point, both laces should be on the same side of the boot. Grab both laces in one hand (I am right handed so I always start by lacing the first hook at the bottom, on the right side of the boot) and pull them tight. While keeping the laces separated slightly, lace the first and second hooks on the opposite side of the boot from which you started, simultaneously . Continue holding both laces in the same ‘one’ hand and alternate sides back and forth lacing two hooks each time until you reach the top of the boot and all hooks are laced. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif With time and practice, you can speed this process up thereby increasing your lacing speed and decreasing lost pole time due to boot malfunctions https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif
I hope this was a clear enough explanation. If not, let me know and I will try to make it more clear. If I ever get boots like this, I will post a video and show you how to do this. Good luck with the boot lacing https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

My instructor showed me the "two at a time" method of lacing, which is a good trick, but I still think it’s easier to have the lacing be more permanent.

Cheery…that is an old skaters trick. I have pictures that I took when I was trying to explain this on another forum:

lol she took them while trying to explain it to me on another forum and I still can’t do it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif
how does hammering them down effect being able to tighten them? I usually have to tighten my laces a couple of times especially if I’m wearing them for several hours.

Nymph…I will show you in Chicago. If you have the round laces it should not be a problem. You should still have a gap that is open enough for the laces to move.

yep my laces are round so I might try that. I get them snagged on my fishnets, and on the laces for the other boot. Not real graceful when all of a sudden you can’t move your legs because your boots are stuck together by the laces. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif or better yet be upside down and have your fishnets get caught in the hooks https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif

I have done both! I have even caught someone else’s laces in my boots! That was rather interesting!

The one club I go to has 2 poles that are kind of close together (and to the wall). I have gotten some pretty bad road rash from hitting the brick wall too (ouch).
