Alrighty, we all know that sunscreen and pole does not mix safely, especially in 30C+ heat. And poling in long sleeves and pants in the heat is not going to happen either. So how would you girls go about protector yourself from the sun when poling outdoors in the summer? I tend to burn easily and poling with sunburns is not pretty!

I like using the Neutrogena spray on sun screen that comes in an aerosol can. It dries quickly and you don’t even know it’s on.

I’ve tried the neutragena spray before, but I think I formulation is different in HK than here because the spray still leaves a but of oilyness. I find that about a LOT of creams and cosmetics. I buy something in HK on vacation and really like them, but when I buy it here, it isn’t quite the same.

BUT I think I might buy another can to try again since it’s bathing suit season anyway. I might just luck out.

Does anyone else have more ideas? How about a mineral sunscreen, have anyone heard or used one that just brushes on? I have mineral makeup with spf 15, but i haven’t tried it on my body +poling yet.

I have never tried this product, but the Bare Escentuals line makes a powder sunscreen that may work. I use their makeup and love it even though it is expensive.

Snariel, I just got back form Sephora, yes, I went ther right after reading your post. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif
But, the sunscreen product from Bare Escentuals line isn’t available in Canada, something about needing to past Canadian testing or something. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif

I did come back with a few sunscreens + makeup power with SPF, so I can try them out at home.
Here are the products I plan on trying out:

Clinique Sun screen spray- I already tried some of this and it is NOT good for poling!!!! It says oil-free, but they used some kind of chemical emollient as a substitute (feels almost like silicone based) and it is VERY VERY slippery. I repeat DO NOT POLE IN THIS!

Neutrengena Body Spray spf30 (NOT the cooling effect one): It claims non greasy, but I’ll updated when I try it out.

Aveeno Baby Sunscreen Lotion SPF55: It also says non-greasy, and I’ve heard good things about it, I’ll update with results.

ELF Mineral Powder SPF15: It’s a mineral makeup with colour for the face, but I figure since I already have this sitting around, why not. I’ll update with results.

If anyone else wants to help out and test out different types of sunscreen for poling, please post your results. Also, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! Put down safety mats and be sure to clean off your pole thoroughly in between. I don’t want anyone getting hurt.

Also, please note that I will be applying the sunscreen on my body, then WASHING it off the palm of my hands for the trails. I don;t think having it on the palms are particularly safe.

Edit: Also, I"ll will be waiting 15min after applying so it is properly absorbed before poling.

Here are the results the AVEENO BABY SUNSCREEN SPF 55.

After having it on for 15min, the sunscreen was well absorbed and felt almost powdery for a lack of a better word. The good news is I can pole in it. The bad news is, it feels like poling in a freezing room. It does leave a white-ish residue on the pole which is mildly slippery. For frame of reference, I’m using a TG pole.

Moves which requires a large or multiple area of skin contact feels secure, less secure than normal but I’m in no danger of falling. These moves include: climb, sit, CAR, superman (legs crossed), gemini, scorpio, 2 handed spins

The following moves I can do, but feels insecure: brass monkey, teddy, knees, cupid, spinning scorpio, twisted grip straight edge or aysha, side climb, caterpillar climb, butterfly, a very conservative reverse grab

The following moves I tried and failed horribly: SM, split grip and elbow grip aysha and straight edge, 1 handed spins

The following I was to scared to try: an explosive reverse grab, reverse aysha

Verdict: It held up better than I thought, but I’m not satisfied with it, there has to be something better. In a pinch, I would use it, but only if I know I won’t be trying anything difficult or new, and only on a pole I"m familiar with (brass or tg). I don’t know how well it will hold up outdoors in the heat though. The residue does wipe off the pole very easily, a little alcohol will do. Although it’s not great for poling, I think I will be switching to this as a daily sunscreen as it it really does not feel greasy at all to the touch.

    Hi there

I remember when I was a kid, my aunt used to take a supplement designed to make you less sensitive to the sun. As she’s travelling across Africa in a Land Rover right now, it’ll be a bit hard to get hold of her (!), but maybe something taken internally could help?

This was brought up not too long ago. This thread may offer some other alternatives for you.

    Thanks Chemie!

    UPDATES:
I also tried the neutragena spray and I won’t recommend it for poling. It’s not as bad as the Clinique spray but I think the oil was also replaced with a silicon, which is slippery. Symonesal had success with it so maybe different country have different formulations. Or maybe it just doens’t work with my skin + pole.
