Preggo :P
Posted by Aliira on April 9, 2009 at 6:00 amSo…since finding out about my pregnancy, we’re putting off getting my pole til after I deliver. However I’ve started stretching. But I was curious if theres anything I should avoid while being pregnant? I still need to talk to the doctor, but I usually prize advice from other women best. Do any of you know any streatches that would actually be benificial for me to do while I’m preggo.
I’m 5 weeks right now. (yea baby’s itty bitty right now.) But I didn’t do ANYTHING for physical fitness with my first child and I very much regreted it.
Any response is greatly appreciated. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Have you tried belly dancing?
When I did it, many years ago, I was told that it was created as a form of exercise for the abdominal muscles that supported the uterus during pregnancy.
Can’t comment on the benefits of it and pregnancy as all my children meow or have scales.I know it helps with cramps, so if there’s anyone who can back this up, or refute, please do so.

Is there a place near you that offers pre-natal yoga? One of my good friends teaches it, and its supposed to be very good for stretching, strengthening, and de-stressing (most important I think!) during your pregnancy by using the right muscles, directing blood flow, playing soothing music, everything yoga usually does but designed specifically for expecting mothers. The studios I know of have different classes designed for the different trimesters. Maybe you could look in to that?

ITA with pre-natal yoga, I loved it! If you can’t find a class or attend one for any reason, visit the library or a bookstore- there are many great books on this subject. I hope you’re feeling okay – I had such awful ‘all-day’ sickness during those early months!

I will second prenatal yoga. I did yoga for quite a while and it was the most beneficial during my pregnancies. You would not regret taking it! Congrats on the pregnancy! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I know its not got much to do with stretching but during my pregnancy I did a lot of walking and my midwife told me that it was probably the main reason that I delivered quickly. Just be very careful in the latter stages of pregnancy that you dont walk too far!! (That happened to me and I got tired half way and had to get my man to collect me in the car!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif )
As far as stretching goes I think the girls have hit the nail on the head by suggesting pre-natal yoga. I cant speak from experience but Ive heard great things about it. If you cant afford classes or if there are none available near you, might I suggest that you purchase a dvd, Im sure there are some on the market these days. There are a couple of yoga instructors here on this site and Im sure they can advise you better than I can. ‘yogabeachbabe’ is a yoga instructor as far as I can re-call. Also Veena is a certified pre and post natal fitness instructor….
Anyway congratulations on the pregnancy and the best of luck to you and your little bundle! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif -
Swimming can be fun, its low impacts and takes all the pressure off your growing belly relieving back pain, and if your preggers during the hot summer months then it can be a great way to keep cool too!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Well…I actually just miscarried. But it’s better sooner in the pregnancy than later. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I think that I will keep up with the exercise advice though. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Thank you for your replies.

Oh Aliira I’m so sorry https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I miscarried my first pregnancy, it was very early as well but it was still incredibly emotionally and physically painful https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif It will take time to heal, talking to other women and yes gentle exercise will help – we really are here for you. xoxo

Aw honey I am so sorry to hear this…it’s never happened to me but a friend of mine recently went through it and I can’t even imagine what it must feel like. Everyone is here for you if you need to talk and please take some extra time to pamper yourself..I’m sure you need it.

You are all very kind. I’m telling myself that the spirit of that child either just found other parents he or she felt fit better, or has just decided to come at a later time. I was halfway done knitting a baby blanket, I’m going to finish it and donate it. Though as strange as it is, considering it was very early pregnancy…I miss having him/her in my tummy. I haven’t told my family yet…I don’t know what to say to them.
