Does this move have a specific name?
Posted by moth on August 22, 2010 at 5:35 pm…or is it just a scorpio/inside-leg hang variation?

I’ve seen a few dancers do the same thing but always reckoned it was a bit beyond me – I’m glad I finally worked up the courage to try it myself :] Sorry for the naff picture and the really mismatched outfit – I was just having a play around and didn’t expect to catch anything interesting on camera!

when you grab the foot of the hanging leg it’s a "closed" leg hang. so this one would be a closed inside leg hang/scorpio https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif nice job!

I love this move, but haven’t quite yet had the bottle to bring my body round the pole.
I have heard it referred to as a kamikaze before (or something very similar anyway).

Whatever it is you do it beautifully! What a flexy back! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

Thank you! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I kept losing my grip when I tried it with normal scorpio legs (er, when the inside one is wrapped around the pole, more or less vertical) but it was easy peasy when I stuck my leg out at more of an angle. While I was upside down, it felt like my top leg was so squint it was parallel to the floor but obviously it wasn’t quite that bad https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif -
Yep this is a Kamikaze.
The "closed inside leg hang" has the armpit on the pole still. This one the armpit is unhooked.

it’s true that the closed inside leg hang typically has the armpit on the pole, but i’d say this is clearly a variation. this is just my point of view but if you say "closed inside leg hang with no armpit grip" isn’t that much more understandable than"kamikaze" (although truly much more of a mouthful)?? and one person’s "kamikaze" is another person’s "angel". i think it’s easier if we try to use descriptive names in pole wherever possible! ok, end rant! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Sorry. -
I have heard this called THE BRIDGED SCORPIO.
I would call it bridged if you were pushing out from the pole itself.

I agree! Bridged is a different scorpio variation. Oona Kivelä does a beautiful bridged scorpio at 2:27 in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gebtdTxD3RQ

I always called it scorpio ankle grab(sawit somewhere called this!) But Fleur called it scorpio contortion which is what I call it because I feel like a contortionist when I do it lol

I heard it called the Taylor. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif
