I am in a little bit of a pole predicament here and am in need of advice as to how to handle my current situation. I started pole dancing because I began taking beginner classes at a local studio. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there. I loved the instructors that I worked with, the environment, the format, everything. I always had a pole to myself and got to work at my own pace with the vigilant attention of an instructor. To be honest, I miss it, I truly miss pole class. I love taking Veena’s lessons and poling on my own too, but I was hoping to have a mix of the two.

At the studio, I am currently within the category of advanced dancer, therefore the classes I would sign up for would be in that category. For some reason, the studio’s website will not allow me to sign up for a reservation, stating that I do not meet the prerequisites, even though I have already attended an advanced class. I was told that this issue would be resolved while I was at that class. This was four months ago.

In the time that has passed I have used their website contact repeatedly to state my current issue. I have also called the studio twice and left voicemails. I even sent a message to the studio’s facebook page, which I noticed had a decent amount of activity. I have yet to receive a response from any of my attempts. I am so frustrated. What did I do wrong? All I want to do is spend an hour with fellow pole dancers, being told by a present instructor that I am doing things correctly. The online classes fill up, so if I can’t reserve in advance, I just can’t go. I never felt like people there didn’t like me or something… I don’t know I’m just confused. I am trying to give them money to teach me… I don’t know why it has been so difficult to get a response.

I have checked other studios that are about an hour’s drive away from me, but unfortunately those studios have course packages as opposed to individual classes. I simply cannot commit to a 6-week course due to my constantly evolving schedule. Also, I don’t have the money to pay for full course packages. I’m just really sad about all of this. I miss the studio experience… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_pale.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumbdown.gif

Is there anything else I could be doing?

There’s probably an explanation for the lack of response, like technical difficulties with email/website, very busy time at the moment…or maybe slightly incompetent reception staff? Call them during business hours to catch someone live. Or go in during business hours and speak to someone in person.

Their business hours are really only during classes, and usually the only person of authority there is the instructor… Basically getting a person to answer the phone is unusual. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I guess what prompted me writing a thread is that I saw more activity on facebook and yet no response to my message….. Even if things are busy couldn’t I get a quick response just to show me that they’ve paid some sort of attention? *angry pout*

Do you consider yourself more advanced than some of the instructors or have you ever been offered a job to teach elsewhere? I have a similar situation where a local studio owner wouldn’t let me attend a class with Karol because she heard I was going to teach somewhere else even though I wasn’t. I believe she was threatened that I would steal students to send to another studio and didn’t want me learning anything more advanced.

Wow, that’s such an annoying situation to be in! While the studio management or instructor MAY have some legitimate reason not to return emails or calls, I see it as extremely unprofessional–especially as they are in a business that deals with people! I mean, I’d think someone would have the decency to at least give you some sort of response that they’re extremely busy or have a personal emergency. Maybe make a last ditch effort and clearly explain that they’re potentially losing clients if the clients feel unheard and unimportant? As for your class, it sounds like you shouldn’t be taking it personally. I mean, it sounds like someone needs to override the computer system to allow you to take the more advanced class. I don’t think they’re trying to stop you from taking it, but rather that their office management stinks. Sorry you’re having a hard time.

And why not just call the studio and ask if you can come to that class and pay for it then?

It does seem very odd that you have gotten NO response.. perhaps try posting on their actual fb page instead of messaging?

Or maybe whoever checks their messages wasn’t able to help? (As in, maybe the front desk does that and not the owner?).

If not, call and ask to speak to their owner or manager, and if they aren’t available, ask them to call them and leave your number to have them call ya back! It does seem very bizarre, but I agree the online scheduling may just be a problem and oversight.

Well I would call and ask all of those questions but no one ever answers the phone. That’s why I leave voicemails, but I don’t want to leave a novel on their answering machine…. or maybe I should do just that. I have no plans to teach and have been offered no such job, nor do I have any contact with polers outside of the studio aside from two lovely local ladies who are not affiliated with a studio at all. I don’t think I’m more advanced than the instructors… I can’t do elbow or split grip aysha, a proper shoulder mount, the splits… etc…

I know that the online registration problem was not created on purpose, it just needs to be fixed is all. What concerns me is that it could very well be some sort of a "threatened" situation… as in they are avoiding me for some reason, but I cannot figure out why. It sure feels that way though. It is extremely infuriating to watch the facebook page writing comments and yet… I still get no response. So it’s not like she hasn’t seen the message. The studio doesn’t have office staff, the owner IS the office staff, and she is the one ignoring me. I’m kind of afraid to just walk in on a class night and get evil eye… lol… yet I don’t know why I should get such treatment! I have had very very limited contact with the owner, I’ve met her twice.

You know what I might do… I might just sign up for a beginner class. That way I’ll at least be at the studio for a reason and I can talk to the instructor while I’m there. If I can’t sign up for advanced, I might as well sign up for what I can! My only reservation in doing this is that I do not want to make any beginner polers uncomfortable by waltzing in there and being able to do all of the spins and moves they’re working on, and then some. I just don’t want to create a negative experience for anyone in that way. *sigh* I am all sorts of sad about this… I’m just gonna go pole now and try to feel better, lol. At least I have my pole, right?

Woo hoo! Nevermind, I got contacted finally. Yay! Hopefully I’ll get to go back to pole class… I’m super excited now! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
