So I bought a chrome xpole a few years back and just got the chance to put it back up (I had vaulted ceilings before). This pole is slippery! It sucks having to start all over from scratch to begin with, it’s been a few years and I’ve also had a baby and lost all my muscle, but the slippery-ness of it is making it even harder! I read the post that Veena posted on here about weather and pole grip, but I’m still confused. I live in SC which is pretty humid right now, so shouldn’t chrome be grippy now? Should I open a window or close the AC vents in my pole room? It feels even slicker than the stainless steel pole I used in my old club! I’m getting pretty frustrated. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif Do those grip aids really work? Will they rip my skin off?

I have a Chrome pole..For it to be the perfect amt of sticky..It can’t be too hot, nor too cold..Too little of too much of humidity. Couple weeks back it was sooo humid out here that it just made you drenched in sweat within 20 secs of going outside. Sweating and poling usually dont like each other. I try and make it about 72 in my house so that its about perfect to pole..I’ve heard nothing but good things about mighty grip from the girls i pole with. Im hesitant to use it bc i dont want to get dependant on it..but sometimes people really need it. Congrats on the baby, just take your time and work on spins and muscle toning first if your pole is being a pain right now. Good Luck https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Surely understand. I struggle with frustration due to my stainless steel. Really considering investing in xpert titanium gold since I’ve heard wonderful things about the grip of it.

Just last night I placed an order for Mighty Grip. I’ve tried Tite Grip, Dry Hands and samples of ITac Level 2 & 4. I bounce around among all of them and thought I should try Mighty Grip.

Even when I was working on strengthening, it was hard to hold due to being slippery. I hope it works out for you, I know how frustrating it can be.

Thanks ladies. For tomorrow’s practice I’ll turn up the AC a little bit, usually we keep it about 78 in here because I’m cold all the time so maybe after warming up and running on the treadmill it’s too hot in the room when it’s finally time to pole. I also went ahead and just ordered some mighty grip as well, I’m determined to get rid of this problem!

i found some really cheap way. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif (no need for buying expencive grip-creams)
I am practising and performing with man shaving foam.
    https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif yeees really.
I jsut put it on my hands, legs, arms… everywhere where i need grip, and just wipe it down with a towel (without water). You will smell like a man, but you will be glued on it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Try it and tell my how it went! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’ll try that on my next pole day! My husband’s shaving cream smells good too. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

So after turning the AC up so your room was a nice, cool 72, did your pole get more grippy? Please let me know – I’m looking at buying a pole, think the brass poles at the studio are super easy to grip, but am afraid of buying the chrome because I’ve heard of people saying how slick it is!! I’ve never been on anything other than the brass poles at the studio. Also, do you tend to notice the joints in the pole when you use it? I would be fearful of the joints and holes for the hex keys being abrasive…
I know this may sound strange, but do you think it would be possible for me to one day come over and try yours out? We talked about a BBQ earlier in the summer and I was sick that day. Please let me know! Thanks!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif

I still had grip issues ever when the room was cold. I think it may be because I have dry skin and so my palms start to sweat a lot? I’m not really sure. Anyway I sold my pole to a friend and bought a new shiny titanium gold x pole! I find the grip much better and I don’t notice the joints or anything like that. If you want to try out the titanium one you’re more than welcome to, I’m a stay at home mom so I’m always free. I’ve never tried brass, is it easy to spin on those? It’s weird, when I danced years ago they had a stainless steel pole which is the slickest of all finishes and I never had a problem with it. My chrome was sooo slippery though, odd!

Just from reading the responses here I have a few ideas why everyone is having problems with their chrome and thought I’d share… Just my 2 cents worth, feel free to disregard. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

Ohohraptor: FYI: Stainless gets grippier over time, so it’s possible that the stainless you used before had been used enough to improve the grip. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif And yes, I do see that you have a titanium pole now – I’m jealous! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

High humidity makes the pole slicker – when it rains, it’ll be even harder to grip. Chrome and the east coast isn’t always a good combination because it’s more humid on this side of the country. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

I still had grip issues ever when the room was cold.
You also can’t grip as well when the pole is cold – if you do some spins and climbs on it as you warm up your body it’ll warm up the pole, too. If you have the AC blasting, that pole will get cold again pretty quickly between moves.

I think it may be because I have dry skin and so my palms start to sweat a lot?
If you’re too sweaty you can’t grip, but you also can’t grip if your skin is too dry – if you’re prone to dry skin, use lotion several hours before poling and your grip should be better (doesn’t help so much with the hands, just with the rest of the body). If you have problems with your hands sweating, then you may want to look into hand antiperspirants.

Hookedonpole: if you’re looking for something just to help you hold on better, then Mighty Grip and similar products are what you are looking for. If you’re looking to stop the sweating so you can grip better, then try hand antiperspirants like Dry Hands and Tite Grip. Example: If sweatiness isn’t the problem and you try Tite Grip, you’ll find that it won’t help you at all. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I have a SS platinum stages and it is the most slippery pole I’ve ever worked on. Kinda sucks.

I have tried it in an unheated warehouse in winter, a really warm dorm, my current perfect-temperature apartment … doesn’t matter. I’ve tried lotion, every concoction mentioned on here, doesn’t make much of a difference. I only stick on it right after a shower and right after wiping it down.

At this point, I have to try and look at it as a benefit. *tries to make zen face*

I’ve got an xpert with the joints and hex key holes…I have NEVER ever noticed the joints or the holed whilst using my pole. I think they are perfectly engineered. I love the smooth transition of each piece. It’s a very fine quality pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I also have not had problems or noticed the joints and hex key holes on my xpert. I was also concerned after using a one piece stainless steel for over 2 years. My ss was not usable top to bottom as the height adjuster was at the top and extended quite a bit for my ceiling and that part was not usable for poling. I love the xpert pole being usable from top to bottom. Again no problems noticing joints and hex holes at all.

Congrats on the TG pole! The x-pole site states that it’s supposed to emulate the grip of brass. I wonder if it really does. If so, it might be similar to the poles Miss Kitty and I are using in our classes. I’ve been browsing poles lately myself. There’s a platinum stages one and a lil mynx one on our local craigslist. I’m kind of curious about the brass x-poles too, but I guess they’re not in the US yet.

In terms of grippiness, I bought one of those chalky/ball things a while ago. It only cost me like £2.50 so very cheap, works quite well, probably not as good as mighty grip but worth a try if you’re on a budget! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
