About a month ago I had alot of stiffness and pain in my traps and rhomboids muscles. I usually just go for a massage but hubby suggested I go see a chiropractor. I did but I havne’t really found that its helped all that much. I think the time off the pole over the past 3 weeks helped more than any adjustments. Well yesterday after my practice again I noticed I’m sore in same muscles in my neck and shoulder area. Any suggestions for good stretches or something I can do other than going for a massage or chiro appointment that I could do at home.

Veena has some AWESOME stretches and strengthening videos in her lessons that will help with your areas of concern. I know they are appropriate, as a nurse I worked in OT/PT rehab and she totally nails it with these lessons! A chiropractor helps when your vertebrae are out of alignment and cause impingement on the nerves which in turn causes the muscles to knot and tighten to try to protect the area, which is why you are sore after an adjustment (I also worked for a chiropractor). I would strongly recommend the lessons on here to help you with this!! Good Luck!

Make sure you’re keeping your shoulders rolled back and down. I know I occasionally forget and end up tearing my shoulders to pieces. Also, take your time stretching and warming up those muscles as well as cooling them down when you finish practice. In my opinion, a good cool down is just as beneficial as a good warm-up.

I should mention that I only see to have the issue with the muscles on the left side. My dominant side is my right. Not sure if its because i’m working on too many moves that require alot of control. Lately I’ve been working on the flag invert, iron x and twisted grip. Maybe I’m just pushing myself to hard.

IF your working hard on advanced move and only on one side its important to incorporate some strength training to balance out the body or start working both side of the body when you pole. Massage and stretching is the best thing for sore muscles. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Bikram yoga or hot yoga work wonders for sore muscles. Other than that, it’s all about stretching properly before poling. Yoga and pole are closer than you’d imagine.
