  • CAR – Two Pointed Feet or a Pointed and a Flexed?

I have seen the CAR done differently – some do it with two pointed feet and some do it with a pointed foot and a flexed foot. Does it matter which way you do it, is one correct over the other?

Of course two pointed feet look way prettier, but then you seem to loose the lock of the grip that way https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

I go into it with flexed feet until I am sure of my grip then I point them. It’s much nicer in shoes, with barefeet I think youb should probably always be pointing but safety first! I think it’s safer to keep them flexed until you achieve the lock.

I have seen even pro dancers flex the feet in this one.

I only manage to point both my feet when I have good thigh grip! I have quite thin thighs so gripping is harder for me than it is foe some ladies.

I honestly feel that the CAR is a pretty dangerous move (and I felt this before the woman who fell out of it and is now in a coma). I’m happy to sacrifice form for the feeling that I’m not losing my lock.

You can keep one foot flexed until you’re comfortable with your grip and then when you’re comfortable you can try take the flexed foot out if thats the way you prefer the move to look. Its really your choice! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
I have to say Im a bit of a pointed toes snob so I do prefer the way CAR looks with 2 pointed toes! But like Charley said: Safety first! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

when you point your feet, you can still get a lock with your feet- it’s obviously not AS secure, but i push the heel of the top foot into the side of the ankle of the bottom foot- right above the ankle bone.

IMO, two pointed is better looking, but it if is a question of better grip with a flexed foot, gotta go for safety first ! over time, the CAR can be worked on so that 2 pointed becomes more secure. also, i sometimes forget, but as veena teaches, turning the knees towards each other really does help secure the grip.

I learned it with one pointed & one flexed, but as someone mentioned above, when you roll your thighs in, it makes it more secure and you can point both. I just very recently started doing both pointed. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Just want to clarify- you should always be rolling the knees in and engaging all the way through both legs whether you’ve got one foot pointed or two!!

Says the fabulous and non-bowlegged Amy! (xoxox to you my awesome friend and amazing teacher) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif
    BUT
CAR is really different depending on anatomy. I am bowlegged. If I roll my knees in, my thighs separate, and down I go on my head. I roll my knees OUT, hard. When I teach this move, I spot students and have them try rolling both ways. They can determine which makes them and their leg anatomy feel the most secure.

I do what amyxshi does, and lock the heel of my top foot over the bottom foot, keeping both feet pointed. It is possible to have a solid grip without flexing the foot, but it is important for the individual to determine this. I personally like the pointed look because it doesn’t disrupt the lines.

I do mine both feet pointed, and I actually roll my knees outward. I imagine squeezing my ankles together and pointing my feet outward/to the side, and I find it gives me a good grip, although its really important that my ankles are properly crossed otherwise it doesn’t feel as secure

I think a long term advantage of using both feet pointed is that is forces you to focus more on a quality thigh grip. Plus, it does look so much better.

I also turn my legs out, not in. I’ll have to (carefully!) try the inward thing and see how that works for me. I generally keep both feet pointed, but if I am sort of spinning down into CAR, I end up w/ the "ugly foot". So, I think the flexed foot is overall a more secure grip, but you can develop your thigh strength and awareness until the double points are as secure.
