Updating browser
Posted by smb1989 on January 12, 2011 at 5:38 pmI love the new site but I can’t go on it at work anymore 🙁 it keeps coming up with recommending me to update my browser but I can’t update things on my work computer and I can’t close the recommendation pop up 🙁
This was the only thing keeping me sane at work!

I feel your pain. I can't view the lessons now either and can't update my computer:( Not sure whqat to do.

If the site is telling you to upgrade your browser it means that you are most likely running Internet Explorer 6. Many sites are no longer supporting IE 6 for many reasons including security and standards compliance.
I would suggest having a frank conversation with your employer explaining that your computer needs to have at least IE 7 put on it. IE 6 is not secure, has known exploits and Microsoft doesn't even support it anymore.

I work for a bank..they tell me what I need not the other way round unfortunately

I would think that a bank especially would want the latest version of IE… That's scary that they don't keep up to date on those kinds of things. Do they have Automatic Updates disabled, too? Because that would normally include browser updates. And I assume that downloading Firefox or Chrome is also out of the question, as well.
Other than bringing the subject up to your employer (as gently as possible), the only other thing I can think of is hope the mobile site is up and running soon (assuming you have a smartphone). https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

Yes smb if you work for a bank and they are running IE 6 on all their machines that is very very bad.
Neither Microsoft nor Google support IE6 because it is too old, buggy, and insecure.
To not upgrade your browser because IE6 “isn’t broken” is a dangerous decision because it has so many security issues. Often the IT department of a business is very aware of this, and WANTS to upgrade but can't get past the beuracracy of management to justify the time spent upgrading all machines. In cases like this – the more people complain, the more leverage the IT dept has to make a change. Speak up!
In the same way that's it's illegal to drive unroadworthy cars on the road (because they are too old and busted, and pose a risk to yourself and everyone else using the road) it is incredibly irresponsible to use IE 6 in a business situation, especially where banking is involved.
If your bank uses applications that were designed for IE6 and thus only run on that browser, the second best option would be install a new browser without uninstalling IE. Then you can use IE when you absolutely have to, but a modern browser or everything else.
Honestly, you should really tell them – point them to this page maybe: http://www.webdevout.net/ie-is-dangerous
