So I've had an account on here for a while now. I still dont have a pole which really bums me out but I'm getting one soon which is awesome. 🙂 In the mean time I've been working on stretching and gaining more flexability. I'm pretty flexable with my legs but I have yet to master the splits. Any helpful tips on that?

Also I have been doing some floor work on my own. I cant really find any good floor work videos w/o a pole on youtube. And some of the ones I have seen like the shoulder stand. For the life of me I cannot do. I dont have the core strength to hold myself in that position let alone to get into it. Any ideas on how to get there. Or any good videos that you've personally seen that could help?

    Much appreciated Veena Nation.

    hey malkai,

theres a good few posts in the stretching & strength part of the forum on splits etc. https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/Splits_in_6_weeks_2010-03-19_013304

this is the newest  one where a lot of the others are discussing on right now 🙂 umm other tips is just to stretch as much as you can! and hold stretches for at least 30 secs. If you're looking for specific stretches, check out the other posts 🙂

floor work wise, i find inspiration from dance clips and try to incorporate that into routines. If you like a certain type of music, say hip hop, try looking at some choreography of that online and pick out dance moves you like and fit it into a pole routine?

is the shoulderstand where you are lying on the floor resting on 1 shoulder? (just double checking hehe) I learnt how to do it from this video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKcK8GEFY_k

At first it was tricky to stay up but after a while you get used to it and can do all sorts of fancy tricks with it 😉 Hope that helps! I'm sure the others will have a lot more advice for you

Coincidentally enough, yesterday I just purchased two of the Valentino brothers' e-books. They are very well-laid out and not at all difficult to follow. If you've ever done any yoga, you should recognize most of the stretches. I just started them yesterday, so obviously I can't tell you how my progression has been with them, but I did get a lot of good stretching in and the routine ended up being a lot more intense than I expected it would.

Also, for floorwork I posted a thread a while back with several videos I found that were either all floorwork or mostly floorwork with a few tricks here and there:

    Hope this helps.

There is a member by the name of Dangerous on SV. Her floorwork is amazing. Also, if you look into some of the SV challenge archives, there was a months of floorwork videos that you could link to.

Here is a link to a Dangerous vid:

I am a HUGE fan of Dangerous's floor work (Got to meet her in August–she's so cool)! Study her videos well! The S Factor workouts are great too. Both the Beginning and Intermediate DVD's incorporate floor moves into the exercises and they will greatly increase flexiblilty and fluidity over time. After doing those vid for a year, I got my splits back! For sheer variety of moves, Veena's got a great selection right here! She always comes up with some sweet move or variation that I'd never seen before and she breaks everything down SO well that you get it in no time!

@ poleophile- I have the S-factor DVD’s, and I am surely going to pop them in every now and then thanks to your comment. I’ve been really focusing on flexibility. Thanks!
