Photo editing
Posted by Fallen Angel on January 20, 2011 at 8:43 pmI've seen alot of black and white photos with only one other color showing.. example black and white photo of a pole pose but shorts are pink..
I'm pretty hopeless with computers but is there a program for this?

A great free program is gimp but it is pretty advanced. I am not sure if google's picasa has the ability to do that but it is also a free editing program that many seem to like.

Picnik by Google!! Its free and the options for the free one are great!! I got the premium and did my new photoshoot picks with it. Its so much fun to play with.
The guy who does the pink pole is Sean O'Connor. I think the site is pinkpower.com or something like that.

don't support google. they are an evil and corrupt company. I won't get into details but lets just say that working in the technology industry has really opened my eyes to a lot of things.
Adobe photoshop is far and above the best photo editing and digital art. I use version 7 at the moment – it's a little on the old side but still does the job for desinging website templates for work (I'm actually a web programmer but since I'm the only one in the company with an artistic bone in my body I get to to do the creative stuff lol.) I also use photoshop for digital painting so it is very versitile. I've even used it for designing floor plans for my new training room.
The only downside is that it can get a bit pricy. However there are simplifed versions like Elements and Express that are cheaper. (they still have all of the basic fetures – the things they lack are all things that the home user wouldn't ever use)
if your pricerange is "free" Gimp is a good option – it is made for linux but works on windows too. I found it fairly intuitive to work with although not as fancy as photoshop.
whatever you do decide you should post pics!!

There are two really good programs for editing photos as a beginner.
1) Picasa by Google (use this if you have a windows computer)
2) iPhoto by Apple (use this if you have a mac)Anything else is needlessly complex for the beginner, for example the black and white filter for both programs is more than just a color swap to black and white. Picasa and iPhoto both apply several extra filters in order to insure you get the best black and white photo you can get from an automated process, with any other program such as Photoshop or the Gimp these additional processes are not performed automatically so it can take quite a bit of doing to get a good photo out of them.
If you are new to photo editing keep it simple and you will be much happier. Photoshop and the Gimp are very power pieces of software but their learning curve is steep and if you are not going to do professional editing it is really not worth your time and frustration.

I use Lunapic.com. There is a color changer feature under adjust on the menu and select color changer on the drop down.
