I had been in a bit of a dance funk of late…had done lots of trick work but not much real DANCING. It's winter/cold/gray/snowy, I had a lack of space, lack of "groove thang," you name it, I was lacking it!

This weekend I made myself simply dance for an hour a day, three days straight. I did mostly floor and wall work, just put some slink in my attitude and danced…and what a difference in my mood. I took video so I could critique myself and make it not only fun, but productive….now I am in dance funk no more, I am re-energized and ready to go!

It seems there have been a few threads and blog posts lately about being in a funk/rut, hopefully this will help someone. 🙂

good for you! I try to just dance at least once a week, no tricks at all, just body waves, transitions, and floor work. It helps me get through the feeling of being “stuck” because of a few tricks that I haven’t been able to master.

    That's great to hear, Polergirl!

I have always entertained the idea of creating my own routine but for some reason, always felt really 'stupid' freestyling to a song that I like for pole or anything! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif I'm not exactly sure where this false misconception came from but I think this is what is holding me back from making a fun routine to challenge my mind and body.

Was there anything of this sort you also had to overcome as well when you do purely dance in your pole sessions?

I think perhaps all I need is some encouragement and sheer guts.
I'm generally not a shy person but for some reason just dancing to a beat to my own moves and style puts me at unease. Help? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

This is a great idea! I did an impromptu striptease for my hubbie last night and really enjoyed it! But I was aware that I repeated the same moves a few times and I'd like to do exactly this, just move and dance and work on new combinations of floorwork.

    Inspired!

I "free dance" to a couple of songs at the beginning and at the end of my pole workouts.  It warms me up then gets me out of super-serious-intense-sometimes-frustrating training mode.

I'm just getting out of a rut myself having gone on vacation for a week, did the shoulder mount once before I left, and am just getting out of square one to be able to do it again.

Joyful, at first I felt slightly dorky, but as long as the song was one that I was reallllly feeling, the dorky feelings went away quickly. I posted a video from last weekend that was almost all floorwork, with a tiny bit of pole.

Sometimes I will start dancing with a challenge for myself. Get all the way across the floor without getting up, or without a traditional crawl, etc.  That gets my head thinking in different ways, which I think is really good for a dancer.
