So here's the background story: the day before yesterday I fiiinally got my twisted grip-handspring downhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif. I was so excited and even though I had been poling for over an hour I had enough stamina to get at least ten of them down before I was too exhausted to continue.

I forced myself to rest my upper body yesterday so today I was really excited to practice the handspring again…BUT today I couldn't do even one of them! Even after soaking my hands in Dry Hands and putting on some Marilyn Manson (that usually makes me strongerhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif ) I could barely pull my feet up to face level, and that only for like a second or so!

Why, oh why must some new pole tricks be so teasing-they're like: "hi, here you have me! Aren't I awesome? Ok ttyn". Has this happened to you fellow pol:ers as well? It's so ANNOYING when this happens, right?! Grr…

I really don't know what I wanted to accomplish with this post, except for charing my frustration with somebodyhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

    Take care!

PS The day before yesterday I also put together a video of my progress: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kg25jeAo_vs (everything filmed that very same day. I know I'm far away from a controlled TG and lightyears away from the TG lift but hopefully I can start working on improving everything as soon as my TG finally decides to return!https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)

The same thing happened to me with my regular grip and TG Handsprings.  I found that my problem was over-doing it.  On the day I finally got the moves, I did them over and over and wore my muscles out.  Even waiting a day wasn't enough for them to recover.

My advice is to stop practicing the move for a few days.  If you keep trying it and not getting it, you might get overly frustrated (that's my downfall!), and that can be a huge barrier to progressing.  I know it's difficult to stop, but it might help!

    Good luck!

happens to me all the time, specially when I'm taking workshops with top instructors then I come home and can't do a thing I did when in front of them.

The WORST was coming home from a Karol Helms workshop and private lesson then having my pole throw me to the ground with every move I tried…..even ones I had been doing for years. My husband found me in tears trying to rip the pole out of the ceiling. Darn thing wouldn't budge lol.

Been there done that quite often!! Got the regular grip cartwheel at a studio I was visiting and then lost it by the next day haha. Now its on and off, though I've taken about 3 weeks off from regular poling (stupid school and work!) and getting back into it tomorrow. My TG was there for a single freakin' day before it vanished too. Now I dont even feel close!

I do recall definitely overdoing the regular cartwheel mount. We'd practice at least 50x a night for 2-3 nights a week. Finally got it but its consistency isn't there. I will say, I built some nice upper body muscles practicing it so much so often.

Ammivo, Well done you! ,I am nowhere near a tg handspring. However, thanks for your you tube video because i want to learn how to do the cradle hold from an invert like you were doing in the first part of your video. you said on your  video that your grip had been wrong? Your grip looks like what I am trying. Is your weight evenly balanced between both hands or mainly on your bottom hand? Is it just a matter of keeping trying that until you find your balance point? Any tips would be a great help!

Thanks so much for your replys, girls! I'll definitly (try) to not practice the TG for a couple of days and see if it returns! It's so not worth being frustrating or ripping the pole out of the ceiling for (even if it felt like that yesterday) 😉

@polekitten87: Wow, 50x a night? You must have gotten super strong!

@polefanatic: Thanks!:D I didn't think I was either- after all I had been practicing it with the wrong grip since November! Let me clarify: in the vids I have the correct grip, but up until a week ago I placed my lower hand on the pole in a way that didn't allow me to push-therefore I couldn't handspring! 🙁 I realised that when trying the cradle hold for the first time! I'd say that when I am in the cradle, I feel as if my upper arm does most of the work, but the more "far away" you get from the pole (outwards & downwards, and especially when doing it from the ground) the lower arm takes on more of the weight.:S Good luck!

This is a very common problem. Joel Lessing has a term for it: the move stealer! Great advice on this thread, ladies!

I was thinking of this thread today, because I just got a move back that the "move stealer" took from me A YEAR AGO!!!  My studio refers to it as a "corkscrew from the floor," but it doesn't really look like what the rest of the pole world calls a corkscrew.  I think it is the same as the "crouch spin-up" in the video below. The girl in the vid does it so fast and makes it look like not such a big deal.  I think I just wasn't used to holding my body weight off the side of the pole like that. When I got the feel for holding my body in a static position, I finally started to get this spin.
