  • Half dislocated my left shoulder?

Yesterday we were practicing front hook to back hook spin combo and instead of grabbing the pole with my outside arm I kinda pushed away from the pole and it felt like my right shoulder almost dislocated  – i felt it move a little out of the socket and then go back. It didn't hurt that bad, just felt very wrong and I was able to finish the rest of the class (inverts and climbs) with no problems. It hurt a bit more when we did the tricep/shoulder stretch with your arm bent above your head. I can still move/use my right arm correctly, but it feels kind of sore inside. Has this ever happened to you? How long should I stay off the pole? Should I move my arm around carefully in some exercise manner? Or just avoid using it? Anything else I should do? Thanks so much!

If soreness does not subside after a week or gets worse see your doctor.  You could have torn ligaments.  It's normal for the first few days to have soreness but if it persists or gets worse then that is your indication that you need to further investigate to prevent aggravating the injury and potentially making it worse.  I would refrain from lifting anything more than 5 pounds or 2 kilograms for a week on the affected side.  Do slow range of motion exercises to keep the joint from becoming stiff.  If pain is present during these exercises- stop. I have heard of people having this happen before with sometimes repeated episodes  where the joint is displaced and needs to be reinserted. If you find it pop out of socket again without immediately returning, see a medical professional immediately.  Replacing your joint into place can be very painful and requires properly trained and strong professionals that can exert the force necessary to perform such task. In the meantime during your rest phase, you can use an alternating therapy of heat and ice compresses. If pain from soreness is intolerable an over the counter anti-inflammatory pain reliever can be taken as indicated per manufacturer directions.

Oh wow, Kobajo84, thanks so much for your reply!   https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I don't feel any pain, just a slight discomfort as the shoulder just feels a bit loose and weak. I've been using Fastum Gel (ketoprofen) and arnica (9 CH potency) just in case and really want to take it slow with my excercise. My husband had his shoulder dislocated during his army service, and had to have a surgery because his ligaments were all torn up https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif so I was concerned.

I have another pole class today and I'm gonna work on transitions, dancey moves and floorwork (won't push it too hard with my left arm). I really appreciate your input, the info is very helpful!
