    Hi again ladies…

So ive been working on Veenas strengthing moves & a few beginner moves since i got my 1st pole yesterday.

    I have two questions:

Does the burn i feel on my stomach from the pole take long to go away & be able to do moves comfortably? Like, when doing a basic pole hold for eg.

Also, how do you girls cope with sweating & gripping the pole? Even though i wipe mine down etc, my hands get just that little bit sweaty…which is enough to not have 100% strong grip.

    Thanks in advance! 🙂

By the burn on your stomach—are you talking actual skin contact abrasion burn…or abdominal muscle burn?

If you are getting an abrasion burn during the pole holds….

I have my students wear t-shirts. When completing a pole hold—this is more about building upper body strength…..not so much abs/hip flexors(unless you are pulling your knees up….or something to that effect)

If you are getting a contact burn—your arms are failing and you are sliding down the pole–hence the abrasion….wear a T-shirt.

As for the sweating, gripping the pole…..This is a super complex question…

There are some excellent threads in the forums on this subject….search using gripping the pole, pole types, sweating, pole finish preferences….you will find TONS…

Everyone has different body chemistry—so I prefer working on brass—-my hands like it better. But–I also have 2 chrome xpoles as well as my brass.

In the beginning and learning new stuff—the hands will sweat. Plus, the hands aren't strong enough yet for the grips, it causes fatigue, and poof….sweat. Add to that–pole is a pretty intense exercise—-sweat. It does get better!

Keeping the pole clean(I know it means wiping it every few minutes in the beginning) working through Veena's lessons progressively, and keeping at it…..Will help greatly.

You can use grip aids….but again~some work better with certain body chemistries than others….

Search the forums for Grip Aids….it will give you TONS of useful info as well.

Hope that helps……let me know if you have any  other questions….

    Hi Cherry,

Reenie has pretty much covered it – but if it is your first day it will hurt, you will bet bumps, burns, bruises and sore muscles. None of us are immune from that. The more you practice a move, the less it will leave bruises in the area of contact and the less it will hurt. It varies from person to person, just make sure you give your body time to recover between pole sessions. As far as grip goes; I sometimes use a bit of mighty grip or a tiny bit of gymnasts chalk. I try to do without anything most of the time.  When I first started pole I had really sweaty hands. I found tite grip was the best thing for me then – it's an anti-perspirant. Some girls needed really sticky stuff like Itac2 – I found it a bit too sticky and I sweated through it. So tite grip would have my vote when you are beginning…Good luck!

    Thanks ladies.

Im feeling a bit blah today cause im impatient and want to learn moves. Its only my 3rd day i know, but i just wish i was stronger 🙁

Reenie – yeah, i meant actual burn on my skin from the pole during a move. I find wearing a shirt makes the move even harder to do …another reason i need to strengthen my arms/abs i guess.

Believe me Cherry, regardless of how long you are doing pole – well, in my experience which is about 3 1/2 years, you are never strong enough, fit enough or flexible enough – there's always something new to conquer and you are always striving to be better. But, that, is the fun of it. If it was all easy it wouldn't be fun.  Patience is a good friend to have, but Frustration is often hanging close by. I am sure you will rise to the challenge!

You should definitely wear a shirt for pole holds since you really want your upper body to take the load and not your stomach skin. If they are too hard to do without your abs gripping the pole then maybe work on something easier first. Good luck! You will get stronger if you keep at it : )
