I started pole dance two years ago.  I was so excited and would practice whenever I had time.  I saw myself progressing and was happy with my  growth.  Somewhere along the line I grew less and less interested and even stopped watching videos.  My pole hasn't been  used much and once Winter came along it was worse.   I forced myself to get to class the other day  and felt like I've lost my strength maybe forgot some moves.  I did'nt completely stop working out but there has been a shift with my pole dancing practice.  What happen?  Has anyone ever experience this?  I wanna hear your thoughts, experiences  and ideas.

    Thank You

    Hi Be,

Think it's a phase that a lot of polers go through, though I scoffed at the idea that I would ever get bored of pole but I went through a phase like that the other month where I was fed up with it, had no motivation or interest in learning new moves and just pretty much 'blah' with it.

I'm now back into it again, mainly because I made myself enter a competition so I have something to work towards and then we had Alethea come and teach and she was really inspiring. Anyway, what I am saying is that the lack of motivation spell will end eventually. If you feel like you need a break from pole, take a break! There's no point in doing something you don't enjoy.

Don't get disheartened if you forgot some moves or you lost a little strength, all that comes back pretty quick (once you learn it you can't forget it!) and don't focus so much on achieving a move or feel like you're being forced to practice. Take it at your own pace, maybe put your favourite song on and just freestyle to it. Let yourself loosen up and don't worry about it 🙂

Hope you feel better about it soon!

Hey Beepolen, don't be disturbed.  I go through the same ebbs and flows with all my creative passions in life, including dance.  As women we are reactive to the moment, and learning to relax and go with our own flow is the greastest gift we can give to ourselves.  We simply don't know how we're going to feel tomorrow or a month or a year from now.  All we can know is what we're experiencing in the present and we can focus our attention there.

My point is to let go of what has already happened with your pole practice, and don't concern yourself with where it's going.  Acknowlegde and accept where you are right now, and come back to your pole without expectations.  Open yourself up to the present and get up on that pole and be nasty!

Oh goodness, have I ever had an issue with this one!

I can totally relate. I've been on-and-off dancing for about two and a half years, probably coming up on three this summer. I've not gotten very far, because I keep getting to a certain point and stopping, usually after a period of "getting serious" about it.

I think it has to do with the way I view creativity and my own hobbies, whether I feel I can do something or not, how it all works. I'm a writer, and I had an unfortunate hiatus period of about 3 years. That's a long time!

So, these things happen. Be gentle with yourself. You will lose some of your muscle and stuff if you take a break, that's natural. Let yourself take some time, but if you get back to the habit, you might find it's easier next time, or your breaks are shorter.

To be honest, I'm just coming out of an 8 month pause! It really bothered me! But, for me, it was all about intention…I tend to be very introspective, I look for the reasons for my own behaviour within myself, because I think there MUST be an explanation!

Do what you do, and everything will come to you 🙂
