  • How much poling space?

    Hello ladies,

I'm thinking of setting up an XPole in my room and unfortunately I live in a very small apartment with roommates which makes putting it in the living room or somewhere wider impossible.

I have been to pole classes and (the studio I was at anyway) had poles pretty close together. What do you girls think would be the ideal radius space wise with the pole in the middle.

For inverts and things since you're up in the air I figure it shouldn't be that much unless you're knocking into things. But for walking around and spinning, I mean I suppose you can keep that small depending on how much space you have right?

Do you think something like 80cm radius (or less) would be enough? I've seen vids on youtube where it looks like the pole is in a very enclosed space and people still manage to pole fine.

    Thoughts? 😀

It kind of depends on how tall you are.  For me to do a reverse grab I need a good 5-6 feet (150-180cm) radius.  Even doing a push up dismount from an invert is going to be tight in less than a 3 foot radius.  Forget shoes.  I think you will find yourself extremely limited with only that amount of space.

Oh I probably should've mentioned I'm quite short. About 153cm? Which I think equates to about 5-5'1 ish? Does that help at all?

Hi petitejam.  I am 5ft.  I have a space that I can walk around the pole with both arms outstretched and just touch the walls (it's 2.69m x 2.59m).  I haven't really had a problem fitting any moves into this space so far.  If I do a reverse grab I just have to start it on a diagonal so I have more room!

I think you might struggle with 80cms though, that's quite small.  But I guess if you want it bad enough you will make it fit somehow!  You can't move any furniture around temporarily while you are practising?
