So my boyfriend is in a co-ed honor frat and last night he was at an event, and somehow the subject of pole dancing came up and he mentioned to everyone there that I do it (it's not a secret among our friends).  Some of the girls got really excited and said they should have a pole dancing event and he suggested that maybe I'd be able to show them some moves.  The thing is, some of the guys there were interested too (I don't mind, but it makes certain things difficult).  So I have two problems:

    1. How should I structure the event and make it fun for everyone there?

    2. What basic moves can I teach that aren't too sexy (I don't want anyone to feel too uncomfortable in front of the guys even though they're going to have to try anything the girls do too – they can't just sit and watch)?  I was thinking about teaching:

warmup and stretches, maybe some hip rolls and body rolls, how to walk around the pole, some basic pole holds, fireman spin, basic pole mount, pole sit…

    any other ideas?

p.s. space is limited in my apartment so there can't be a ton of group floorwork going on at once, and I have no idea how many people will be interested…

Well, warm ups are a must if you're going to have these people try your pole.  Also, do you have just one pole?  Keep in mind how long it is going to take everyone to take their turn trying all these moves, I would keep it simple.

I suggest maybe doing a couple different moves with guys than girls, because we each have our own natural strengths.  Guys LOVE to try the flag, they seem to think it's the coolest thing to do, but they think bodyrolls are really "gay".  😛  Girls, at least in my experience, love to spin, but most don't have the upper body strength to do it right on their first try.  Do you have Veena's lessons?  Maybe you could have them try the "extended leg spin" as it leaves one foot on the ground, or even just the half-spin.

If you have them try a pole sit, you should take pictures of the looks of pain and terror as they realize how much it hurts at first. lol

Then towards the end if you want you could do a short demo to show off just how much you can do.

I had my neighbor over a while back to play on my pole, and I had to keep it really simple for her.  She liked pole pirouettes and pole poses like the flamingo.   The extended leg spin was a stretch for her, but not for my SIL who picked it up really well, and even did a pretty good back hook.  Guys tend to like the strength moves like the flag, maybe a split grip hold where they can lift their feet off the ground…
