Dry Rough Heels
Posted by JessesGirl96 on March 29, 2011 at 9:40 pmI know this isn't necisarily pole related but for me it is because it is just not attractive to have dry rough heels when you are dancing bare foot or in stripper heels. So I was just wondering if any of you guys had any tried and true methods to get rid of this problem and keep it away?

I know the rough heels problem well. I hate shoes and only wear them when being barefoot would not be socially acceptable (or they're six inch platforms and I'm poling) so I am somewhat prone.. When it's a minor case I usually just use a pumice stone on my heels when I have a shower. But when they get really rough or cracked sometimes it isn't enough.
The one thing I've had work and seen work for other people is this heel cream called Eulactol here in Australia. It's an Australian-made product so you'd either need to order online from an Australian online pharmacy, or find something with similar ingredients in the US. From what I read, I think urea is the main active ingredient, but here's the ingredient list I found online:
purified water, urea, lanolin, petrolatum, decyl oleate, dicoyl pentaerythrityl distearyl citrate, propylene glycol, microcrystalline wax, dimethicone, glyceryl oleate, carbomer, triethanolamine, aluminium stearate, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben, propyl gallate, citric acid, bha, fragrance.

Do you know the cause of the dry, rough and cracked heels? Some times things like this are caused by a fungus. Coconut oil works wonders for things like this, as well as foot soaks in either listerine or a dilute cider vinegar solution. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties as well as serving as a moisturizer. Other things like gold bond lotion might be an option.

For me, dry rough, cracked heels come from my extremely dry skin, and going barefoot, or wearing flip flops. This suggestion may sound weird, but it works for me. At night before I go to bed, I use a pumice stone on my heels first. Then I put vaseline onto my heels…I use enough so that it looks like "gobs" of it on my heels. Then I tear off a piece of saran wrap or plastic wrap, and wrap it around my heel and ankle so that it holds in place. I put a pair of socks on over it so that it will stay on. I have soaked my feet in just water and vegetable oil before doing this also. After a couple of nights my heels are doing better. I guess this is the cheapo fix, but it works for me!!!!

I am 57 years old and was a massage therapist and I have to say, I was SHOCKED at some of the feet I saw particularly on women! SO.. here's my 'cure' for you:
1.) Take Baths instead of showers; or, at least soak your feet once or twice a week.
2.) wear SOCKS – that's right – Men hardly have this problem – guess why?!
3.) Go barefoot as little as possible and when you DO or wear sandles – Make SURE you make up for it with a little special treatment (1 or 2) the next day or as soon as you SEE trouble. The idea is to 'stay on it' before things get crazy. Like overweight – a couple of lbs. is easier to deal with! 😉
4) It doesn't hurt to weekly mix SUGAR and Oilive Oil (just enough to liquify the dime size sugar in your hand) as an exfoliant on feet (or Face, for that matter). It is a natural gllycolic peel. 🙂 ONLY ONCE A weeK, tho!!
5.) Keep the pumice and metal scraper handy near the tub. Use the pumice more than the scraper, because it is smoother and does less 'damage'. (Scraper I'm calling the little cheese grater metal tool for same – use it once a week, maybe – pumice as you will)
6) IF you just HAVE to put stuff on your feet, (or anywhere else rough) just use baby oil or mineral oil AFTER a bathor soak, While Still Wet/Damp. Oil will hold in water/moisture to make it more effective and 'soak in'.
7) Slather up your feet after all that and wear socks to bed if you want to, or around the house while 'moisturizing' as in #6.
I just HATE seeing my feet get even slightly gross and have always done these things, so it's best to jump on the band wagon ASAP when you see trouble. 😉 I have always gotten compliments on the rare pedicures I get about how nice my feet are. (yeah.. I can imagine after what I saw as just a therapist! Those poor ppl work with feet 24/7!! lol:)
Hope this helps! I know it will, tho *grin*

Here are my tricks and tips!
Home pedicures are a MUST. Invest in:
1) pedicure file ($3 looks like a ruler, or a contoured ruler
http://www.sallybeauty.com/Foot-File/SBS-177423,default,pd.html?cgid=Nail04-03)
2) abrasive pads (they come in a pack, $10)

3)Also buy some Callus Remover (this one is awesome! $13)
4) Nail file
5) Coarse buffer for nails
Follow these simple steps, and you will have gorgeous feet after just a few home pedis!
Step one, fill tub with warm soapy water and enjoy a relaxing bath, OR fill tub partway and sit on the edge for 10 min.
Step two, use some sort of a scrub and scrub feet after soaking at least 10 min, (I love the Bath and Body works aromatherapy scrubs.) You can make your own at home with either coarse salt, or sugar, mixed with olive oil. You can add herbs like basil, rosemary, lavender, etc.
Step 3, dry feet off a little bit, and apply callus remover, (try not to get it on your hands cause it will dry them out), and then leave them out of the water for 3-5 minutes.
Step 4, Rinse off callus remover, dry foot very well, scrub with foot file. Dried skin will probably be peeling off if you are doing this correctly. It is important that the feet are DRY, this is most effective. Make sure to scrub with some force. Do not over do it though, you can rub your foot raw! LOL.
Step 5, trim and file and buff toenails.
Step 6, Apply thick layers of lotion and put on socks. I personally love beeswax salve products, they moisturize sooo well, and you can make your own.

Good luck! And one last tip, while doing your toes is also a GREAT time to do a full body scrub, slap on a facial mask, and a deep conditioning hair treatment =) Kills 4 birds with one stone.

Sugar scrub, followed by coconut oil…simple & works beautifully!
I know this is kind of a tangent but Coconut oil isn’t super greasy like olive oil etc. I use it all over in the shower & then pat off any excess with my towel. I’ve read that people tan the most gorgeous tan, and rarely burn from using coconut oil too! It’s naturally antiaging…Haven’t tried tanning with it yet so I’ll have to let y’all know about that later. I always burn lol.
Good luck with all the moisturizing tips, certainly you will find something that will work for you out of all the suggestions!

I have one dry foot. (only me of course!). Its gotten better over the years but its still not perfect. Ive seen a podiatrist about that issue. He gave me a foot cream where I had to put it on, wrap my foot in syran wrap and then put my socks on for overnight. It worked but im just so tired of doing it daily and not seeing any long term results. He also took a sample of my dry skin and prescribed me a med that I needed to take for a month. I never really went back so I dont know what they discovered.
My 2 things that worked for me was a ped egg and heel-tastic. Im such a sucker for informerical goods for my foot.
