Oh My God! So I entered a biginner comp and im pooping myself!

I only did 2 months of classes and then had 11 weeks off after surgery so now im freaking out!! I don't know what music to dance to and I dont know what to wear or what half of the moves are that i'm allowed! lol

    From the rules:

You may ONLY perform the following moves NO OTHER MOVES ARE ALLOWED IN THIS CATEGORY:

Any PDC level 1 syllabus move, including:

Straight leg spin think i know but not sure!

    Jump and Slide no idea!

    Star Jump no idea!

    Dizzy i know

    Back spin no idea!

Carousel i know but for some reason it looks the same as the next move?

Attitude spin think i know but not so sure!

Leg hook spin think i know (right leg hook spin????)

    Fireman i know

    Windmill i know

    ONE climb i know

    pole sit i know

    chair i know

    hip spin not sure

You may not use a cupped grip at any time (eg scissor kick). what is cupped grip!?!?

i will be asking the same to my instructor tomorrow in class!

I hope you can help! xxx

eee! Congrats for taking the plunge! Firstly, this link might help you:
    http://www.poledancecommunity.co.uk/syllabus.html

It gives details of all PDC 1 moves, which are mainly just floor moves so you should be ok. Also, try picking quite a fast song – slow songs tend to mean you have to get every move just right, where as fast songs any slip up can just be "improvisation" lol! But I think everybody has a type, so just put a big range of songs on and see what feels right. I prefere bouncy songs like disney songs (its a guilty pleasure!) but my friend preferes slipknot and my chemical romance, so that part you just have to feel.
Where's this comp anyway? I've not heard of any since elizabeth-jade events did theirs 😛

A back spin is I assume a back hook?

I'd love to come cheer you on if its close enough to Leeds and I'm around! I'm sure you'll do GREAT!

As for music – think about a bit of a theme for your dance I guess – do you want it to be fast and flashy and showy? or slow and sexy? =) then think of music that fits. I'm sure some of the ladies and gents on here will have lots of great tips for you. x

The PDC will probably have all those moves listed …but make certain you are clear on the exact moves so that you arent disqualified or lose points.

I think this type of comp is fantastic. You have some time to practice between now and then as well but obviously this is for beginners.

Choose music that feels RIGHT to you. Also keep i mind that while faster music may disquise your moves to an extent, poses should be held and moves should be "finished" gracefully in order to emphasize your skills.

In the end…just do it and have fun!!! It's your first comp…that in itself is an accomplishment!

@Lopsi are you entering the one run by Jess Leanne Norris?

I did the Elizabeth Jade one back in March and I stupidly entered UKAPP in July but going through a pole rut right now, not the best timing…

ANYway best of luck Beautifulfreak! Just  enjoy it 😀

ooo,  good luck! I'll be home for the summer then 🙁 I'm just at uni up here, and I pole with the pole dance society (also on a monday night!). Don't push yourself too hard though, the last thing you'd want is an injury!

@ BeautifulFreak:  yeah I probably won't go as crazy as you.  I will just work at the pole dance routine.  And hopefully get back to my weight training programme!  I've been looking forward to getting back into it.

@ollie: Yep the UK pole art…. never mind that I"m not graceful nor artistic.  Heh.  It's going to be fun and funny!

wow, you're a brave girl, beautifulfreak!!   i'm sure by now you've found all the moves on the pdc site, they definitely use some different names for things.  good luck in the competition, i'm sure you will do great!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif
