Posted by unicorn on May 18, 2011 at 3:48 pmright girls
advice please.. I have never had to diet before so have not got as clue how to start.
I am ashamed to say I do not eat well. never 3 meals a day
I never have breakfast.. I have 2 slices of toast around 11.30 and then nothing til tea time..
I find it difficult to eat first thing in the morning,, I tend to get through the morning on coffee alone…
What are the foods to avoid when trying to lose weight?
Any dinner and tea recipes/idea would be great..
I need to introduce new meals in to my diet, I never have my 5 a day..
And I need to sort my eating habits out..
more so after gaining nearly 2 stone stopping smoking ( dam you CIGS)
WHAT DO YOU EAT FOR BREAKFAST, DINNER AND TEA . SNACKS INCLUDED?
:0)

While I'm doing an HCG round I eat Really Well.. even if it IS only 500 cal. (HCG causes old fat to be used re:1800 cals a day, so I'm not starving – in case anyone was concerned. 🙂
SO.. I intend to pretty much stick to what I'm doing, just adding in More, after I'm through (this time.. lol). It's very balanced and healthy.
Some might think of it as boring, but truthfully, – there's really only about 10% of the items in the grocery stores that are worth eating to maintain a healthy body.
1) They are found in the Produce, Meat, and Dairy sections.
2) The more 'manufacturing' that took place on the item the more you should avoid it.
3) Stear clear of the 'white stuff' (sugar, carbs, breads) and only use in slight amounts.
It's really SIMPLE (in the head!! lol) I find it's my eyeballs I have to watch when I'm shopping. lol And PLEASE.. use your TIVO to skip the Commercials!! (Man, they have some good lookin' -body damning- restraunt food on there) 😉
I find I actually LIKE the taste of veggies and fruit – once I get used to it again – instead of all the 'crap'.
I also have used Stevia (herb) as a sweetner for over a decade.
Weigh yourself at the same time in the morning and watch how your jeans fit. If things get a little 'off', don't Wait… you can fix a mistake in a couple of days as long as you don't ignore it.
Okay… That's it for me. Hope it helped.

Skipping breakfast is not a good idea, as it leaves your body in "famine" mode, so you actually burn less calories in everything you do.
Now I'm also really not a breakfast person generally. The smell of a fry up makes me feel ill frankly. But still, it's important, so maybe try to have something like a banana, or at very least an orange juice "with bits" or something. Cereal bars are also not that hard to force yourself to eat first thing, better than stuff with milk I find. Frusli bars have some really nice flavours with bits of fruit in.
I am of course a hypocrite, and often only eat breakfast because I have NSAIDs to take or because my boyfriend makes me, lol.

Personally, I may not be the best to ask about "dieting," but I know this: More meals, smaller portions, more frequently keeps your stomach happy, and your moods stable. Seriously, it works.
There's something my mom's done, as well as both my inlaws, and they all seem to think it's wonderful, and it's worked for all of them in the weight-loss arena. It's called the G.I. Diet, or the Glycemic Index diet. You don't necessarily need to avoid certain foods or take out the treats you love, but change when you eat and how you do it. There's a book on it, if you're interested!
Otherwise, make sure you ARE eating, and drinking a lot of water. Our bodies often expect us to get a lot of water from the food we eat, such as from fruits and vegetables, and often, we don't. Many of us are far more dehydrated than we think! So, drink water. You could even see about drinking a big glass of water if you feel hungry, and waiting a little bit to see if the hunger leaves (which means you were actually thirsty), but if you're still hungry, then you eat!

Hey there Darlin….
I wrote an opinion on this not too long ago….you can find the article here.
http://www.mysfit.ca/en/mysfit-musings/item/7-reboot.html
I actually don't like the word "diet" in its ever used conventional terminology. Diet is something I eat every day—the good, the bad and the ugly.
I generally have my clients track their food/beverage intake for a week and then I have a look at it. From there, I can rearrange things, limit some things, add more of others(usually veggies)
A sample for my daily eating—(Yesterday actually–a good day)
Brekkie(eaten within 2 hours of rising)
Yogurt, cut up fruit and a piece of whole grain toast
snack(2.5-3 hours later)
cut up veggies
lunch(again…2.5 hrs or so after the snack)
Half a whole grain pita filled with salad and chopped up chicken breast
Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar
Afternoon snack
Handful of almonds
Dinner
Home Made Chicken Souvlaki
Home made is way better and I control what goes into all the stuff! Lower in fat and sodium.
Not a perfect day…..but not horrible….
I send people of to investigate the Canada Food Guide Website …..American Food Guide….
The sites have excellent information and recipes.

Yes!! Thanks Reenie!! I'm so glad you posted your blog. It's really well written and I agree with the whole thing.
I had a professor in university who told us he should publish the be all and end all of diet books. It wouldn't be very thick. You'd open the cover and the first and only page would read "Eat less, exercise more." The End
On the subject, there was a really cool article about a professor of nutrition who wanted to prove a point about eating shit food. For a few months he ate almost exclusively corner store foods (twinkies, hot pockets, cakes…) BUT he ate only his recommended average of calories based on age/weight. Oddly enough, he lost weight! And his LDL cholesterol went down while his HDL cholesteral went up! I just thought that was a fun side note 🙂
Since you bring up dinners, I try to home cook as much as possible. Not all my dishes are insanely healthy but I have a very picky eater for a boyfriend which means I have a lot of limitations (no onions, no bell peppers, no peanuts, no seafood…). I just try to make sure I don't overload my plate. I'd rather enjoy what I eat and eat a little less than get to eat a whole lot of something I don't enjoy. Anyway, for my friends and family I started posting some of my recipes online to share. So now I'm sharing with everyone here! If you're looking for something healthier and really really tasty, check out the Jaimie Oliver pasta 🙂

Citing the Twinkie diet for Deesse Jesse because it does sound crazy. The guy eating Twinkies was a nutrion professor even.

Calories out > Calories in = weight loss
Calories out < Calories in = weight gain

Thanks for citing for me, BACE! I guess I do so much citing everyday that I mentally refuse to do it when it doesn't apply to my research haha

Reenie said it all 🙂 it's not a "DIET" so much as a lifestyle change 😉 You don't want to make all of these positive changes for a couple of months just to go back to what you were eating before….and how you were feeling before 😉
Balance is the key.
it's especially important to make sure that you body is well fueled for well..life…let alone poling! If you're hungry, you're going to feel a bit weak, which never helps you nail those moves you're trying for.
About an hour before poling or any exercise I nibble on something or have a protein shake. This gives your body a bit of time to digest before getting on the pole. I find that if i'm eating a full meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner) before poling you feel a bit heavy.
I time it so that after workout/poling, i'm ready to dive into my full meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner).
Right now i'm on a Stripped down plan (Tosca Reno) which has eliminated dairy/bread/sugar. It's definitely not for everyone! But a typical day goes something like this:
Breakfast (around 7am): 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1/2 mashed banana and cinnamon in it + 4 egg whites
Snack (around 10am) : two handfuls of berries + 1 handful of cashew or almonds
Lunch (around 1pm) : 1 chicken breast + 1 cup greens + 1 handful diced veggies all topped with a squeeze of lemon (sounds plain but it's honestly not bad at all)
mid-day snack (4pm ish) : celery sticks with either hummus or almond/peanut butter (or a protein shake)
Dinner (7pm ish) : Veggies + shrimp (or tofu or egg) stirfried with 1 tbsp of sesame oil and seasoned with whatever herbs and spices you like.
I rarely have a snack before bed but if I do it's an piece of fruit usually 🙂
It seems like a LOT of work to cook all of this, but the trick is to take a couple of hours 1 or 2 days a week and prepare everything ahead of time (chicken breast/hardboiled eggs/ cut up veggies etc) so that when you open the fridge or go to make your lunch, the majority of the work is done already.
🙂
