  • Why wont my pole spin freely?

Sooo, it was operation space shuttle launch to actually get the thing up(I was all for finding a beam and putting it up but apparently my partner believes that it requires major renovations including cutting out parts of the ceiling and replacing them with wooden boards, lol!).  Now that it is up, the thing doesn't spin freely, and I can't figure out why.  I think it is a problem with the X-joint but I can't figure out what that problem is.  It is perfectly straight(did I mention that we had to buy a laser leveller and use it mounted on a tripod in order to get the pole up too?), yet although when set to spin, it does spin, it doesn't do so freely, there is a point in the rotation that appears to stick, once it is past that point it is fine, but at that point, there is some resistance.  It wouldn't be a problem, I could use it static, other than the fact that I prefer spin pole and that is what we use in lessons.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I will try to call X-Pole when I get back from class this afternoon anyways if I don't think up a solution before then.

I’m not sure but I think this may be normal. my skinny x pole hasn’t arrived yet but all of the x poles in my pole studio kinda catch like that but its not noticeable while you are spinning. Is there still resistence on it while your spinning?

It doesn't spin as fast as I am used to.  There is no jerky feeling while I am spinning, it just goes around a little slower, but I could be subconsciously butting less momentum into ip, because when I leant back into a backward hook, or stood up and pulled in on the fireman, it sped up considerably.

@ Madfelic. That usually means the pole is too tight. If you over tighten it will slow the spin mode down,

Hank you, I think it is too tight so now I have to wait for my super safety conscious partner to get home to intighten it because in his over enthusiastic safety measures he has mead it so tight that I can’t unscrew it, lol!

@ Madfelice, Hi did you sort out your pole?  Ive just got an expert 45mm i love it but I seem to have a similar prolblem to you it sort of sticks in one place and then moves freely again not noticeable on fireman spins etc, but if I climb it virtually stops I wondered if it was me as Ive never tried spinning before and its my technique (lack of lol!) I will take Veena advice and loosen it a little

The first few weeks with my pole, everytime around it would hit resistance.  And about every 10 times around I would hear a clunk.  Over time that has stopped.  I was at my sisters the other day and her pole spun much better than mine.  So, as Veena suggested, I had my husband loosen it and it spins much better now.

One thing I will say is that we took it down to move it and we can NOT get the two middle poles apart….they are STUCK!  Glad I don't plan on carrying it any where.

It got better after I loosened it, but never completely. After the drama of getting it up I didn’t want to take it down until after the competition I was entered in was over, but now that it is we are taking it down and taking it apart to see if that helps. The top joint where the extension goes on doesn’t feel right when I tighten or loosen it so I think there is something wrong there.

I know, they are very confusing……i would never be able to put mine up or take down by myself.  But give it time to "break in".  I think it takes a while for everything to get settle.

@:Madfelice and Lyme Lyte, Thanks for your advice.  We loosened the pole this afternoon, just a little and it does seem a lot better and I'll take your advice and give it time to settle a little. Its great to get some good advice as Ive had an x pole sport for the last year and have never used a spinny pole till I got the xpert last week, spinny is fun but I'm suffering from a little motion sickness! lol.

Glad it works!  I use mine on spin sometimes and static other times.  Depends on my mood.  You will get used to spin.  Have fun with it!  🙂
