The tornadoes wrecked my apartment complex…The roof top and the walls are now on the ground…It totaled all 3 of my cars (a tree fell right on the roof top…)…all the trees, signs and street lights are now all gone…I feel so blessed that both me, my bf and our cat are alive…

    So many miracles happened:

    1) We bought renters insurance exactly a month before the tornadoes hit

    2) My bf happened to take this week off to study for his CFA exam

    3) I got home exactly 5 minutes before the tornadoes touched down

    4) I packed our survival backpack 2 days before this event…and we end up using everything i packed (when I bought the canned food, hand-crank radio and flashlight…my bf was making fun of me..)

    5) When I went out to check on our cars after the tornadoes hit, I stepped onto a 2 inch nail that punctured all the way into my sneaker, yet, my foot was unharmed.

    6) We rented the last 2 cars in Enterprise.

Oh…last one 7) My XPole was delayed so I never had a chance to pick it up at my mom's place.  Now the pole sit safely at my parents house.

My dad, my boyfriend, my boss…everyone thought I was crazy when I even packed a survival package for my cat (cat food, his blanket, harness, leash, water).  When the tornadoes hit…we didn't have time to grab anything but the gear I packed…we were taking coverage in the guest room and the guest bathroom (we don't have a basement)…we were there the entire night.

Ladies…PLEASE pack your survival gears…it REALLY comes in handy.  The hand-crank radio was our only source to the outside world…it also warned us that there was a second tornadoes coming we it's better for us to stay input then to trying to travel elsewhere…

Thank God you are alright!! WHOA!!! You're a smart thinker, packing all of those things.. I don't think any of it is crazy at all! I'm going to make it a plan to go out with my boyfriend and buy items for a survival kit. I'm so sorry you had to go through with that all but you've been blessed as well with all those good things happening practically all at the same time!<3 I hope you guys are well and get back on your feet real soon<33

OMG!! I HATE f'ing Tornados… the town I live in was demolished in 1953 (year I was born) and kill 185? 220? ppl.

I'm so glad you're okay.  Yeah… I got a wind up radio in 1998 (Y2K), and in '94 spent a night in the creek behind our house 6 miles south of Lancaster, Tx the night half of IT got blown away.

Thanks for such a good reminder to pack the Bugout Bag!

I saw the Mass. tornados on the news.  You guys NEVER have those up there (extremely rare, right?)  It's a weekly occurance in Texas.. Usually.

I hate to start thinking 2012, Mayan/Bible prophecy… but Dang.. when you have a year like THIS one???

GLAD YOU'RE okay.. LEt us know if you need anything.. and on a lighter note:

Whooo Hooo.. Your POLE is OKAY! 😉

So glad you are okay, thanks for letting us know and reminder for preparation.  Everytime I hear about tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. I think of our veneers and wonder if anyone is in the area.  Be safe! 🙂

So glad you guys are ok! You are a smart lady for being prepared; don't ever let anyone make fun of you for being ready for disaster. Better to have nothing happen and you have your survival kits ready than to have disaster strike and be completely unprepared. I remember once when my sister and I were kids, my dad turned the power off for the whole weekend and we had to get around with candles and actually use a bucket filled with sawdust as a toilet–we weren't expecting any natural disasters at the time, but he wanted us to know what to do in case something were to eventually happen at any point and we were without power for a while. No matter how crazy other people might think you are, shit happens, and it's better to take the teasing for a while than be caught unprepared.

Oh, and I'm really glad your pole is safe. lol!

Crikey, hard to imagine that so many of you live in an area where this is even a faint possibility, let alone something you need to keep a survival kit ready for.  Good job ignoring the teasing and making sure you were prepared Mechie, and yay for you all (cat included) being ok!

A few strokes of luck there, like the pole, but to be honest, that mostly looks like it was good sense on your part, not really random chance, hehe.

Thanks Ladies for your word of support!! It really means a lot to me…Some of my friends and relative thinks this is no-big-deal and that insurance will covers for everything…They have no idea how much trouble we're going thru right now…

We went back to my apartment to grab a few things earlier and the apartment complex looks very very creepy.  There are so many cops, military guys and Humvees around (to prevent looters I guess)…but the complex looks very dead.  All the trees, roof tops, walls, glasses and car parts are still on the ground…it was pitch black and still no power.

The apartment management only put us in a hotel until Monday morning so we still have no idea where we are going to stay after that.  Fortunately, with the renter insurance, we will probably find another hotel/motel in this area and just keeping my finger cross…I just hope everything will be settle down before the insurance limit runs out.

Thank you again for your support!!

Mechie, I was in New Orleans about a year after Katrina hit with a couple of friends, and we ended up getting lost in the projects while exploring the city (you know, the one place everyone tells you to absolutely stay the hell away from,) which fortunately for us were still abandoned, but they had a very eerie, dead look to them–there were even toys still left out on the grass. Everything was so still and creepy, so I can kind of envision what your apartment complex must look like. It is amazing what mother nature can do, and it just goes to show that no matter how advanced humans become, we're still no match for her.

So glad you are all okay. What amazing luck, though of course luck = preparation + opportunity! BF and kitty are blessed because they have you looking out for them =)

I remember years and years ago, my first boyfriend died in his sleep while he was away at university… Luckily his sister was visiting him that weekend, otherwise days might have passed without anyone knowing.

    Lessons learned
    – Prepare for the worst
    – Hope for the best
    – Love like there’s no tomorrow
    – Dance (and pole!) like no one’s watching

    Hugs to you all!

Wow, thank god you and your family are okay!  https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif thank you for sharing this, we should all be prepared for disasters these days – no one expects them to happen.  who would have ever thought there could be a tornado in Mass.?   you must be very intuitive – or you have an amazing guardian angel.  🙂

Good news!! The building inspector said there's no major structual damage to my apartment so as soon as the power is back up, we can move back in! Yeah!!

As to my cars…one of the cars is already totaled.  I actually gave the insurnace my title today and they cut me a check…I guess I'll be using those money to pay for the deductible for my other car is it's fixable (currently t's 50/50…on the verge of totaled).  My bf's Mustang is still an unknown.

Sooo…as soon as I can move back to my apartment, I can install my 45mm XPole!! Yeah! ^_^

@ horsecrazy – I went to New Orleans after Katrina, it was very creepy.  Currently my apartment complex looks just as ominous…scary. But, there was no major injury…so, thanks God!

@ tarah – I actually did felt "something" was coming.  I'd been putting off on packing a survival kit for years…then a couple of weeks ago I felt something like a hunch…I just NEED to get my act together and prep for something.  God was definitely watching over us and I'm very thankful!! ^_^

THANK YOU EVERYONE!! As soon as I have my pole up (and get some mirrors) I'll post some practice videos here on Veena!! ^_^
