I'm 100% sure I"m not the only with this problem so I was wondering how you peeps prevent/treat/ deal with skin tear at tha thigh/crotch joinign area. I have a recurring that seems to reopen/retears everytime I pole on a good grippy pole. I've let it heal over the 6 weeks I was off the pole for my wrist injury and it faded to a barely there scar. But the second I'm back on the pole, it retears.

Now, the scar tissue is building up and it area is darker and harder than the skin around it. Doesn;t stop it from retearing though.

What are you toughts. WHo else has this from poling? What do you do to prevent/treat it?

    Hi MoonFlower,

    First things First… OUCHIE!!!

I'm not any type of a physician but I can share an experience of something that helped me when my skin there got upset.

I did not have tearing but I did have extreme irritation in the area where my inner thigh meets the groin. When I first started pole sits the skin peeled off and was this bright painful reddish pink. It looked like sunburn and was about two and a half inches long (right in that crease) and half inch wide. It hurt like the dickens.

I tried all kinds of stuff to soothe it (lotions, hydrocortisone creams, oils) and nothing worked until I put Vaseline Cocoa Butter Petroleum Jelly on it. I massaged it into the skin twice a day and the area was improved after a day.

The area finally healed. I could not pole sit for a week and a half while it healed. I found that if I pole sit without contacting close to the groin the skin is fine. Maybe I pushed up too close and was pulling the skin too much? I have no idea…

I am not sure if this will offer you any relief since it is a little different than a tear… but if it does, its worth posting.

I hope it feels better soon!

First I would suggest a really good side tie/side scrunch short that has a little more fabric in the crotch yet can still let you show some booty. If you can keep that really sensitive area covered it helps. I know I need a little “wider” fit in the crotch than what works for some. If you don’t mind having the booty covered, the poleskivvies shorts are loved by all and fit snug but not tight at the top of the thigh.

Secondly, I would discontinue use of grip aids on the pole itself if you are using any. It is a biohazard issue if you’re in a class situation and you are bleeding. Not just that you could make an immunocompromised person sick, but that also is a point of entry for you that could make you sick. If your home pole is brass or tg, try chrome or one-piece stainless. I find stainless to be the best for hand grip for me anyway, and other metals can be painfully sticky on my body. I’ve never had my skin tear, but I’ve actually had whole patches of skin ripped off my feet. If the issue is your pole getting too warm, try dancing for a song and then stretching for a song, alternating so your pole doesn’t get too hot. And of course, if it’s just getting too hot where your hands are, switch it up and focus on trying to make contact all over instead of just where your top hand rests. Hope any of that helps!

I would consult a doc. I haven't had any skin tearing, just bruising from the pinching. You might have delicate skin taht tears easier than most.

I'm going to take teh advice about wearing something that provides more coverage. But I can;t dance on chrome well and stainless steel is impossible for me since my skin is very dry. The pole isn;t too grippy for the rest of my body, just there.

I've had skin tears on my shoulder from shoulder mounts as well so maybe I just have delicate skin.

this is a side note for the dry skin issue.  my derm told me to try CeraVe cream/lotion with the inderstanding that i pole.  within days i was smooth as a cucumber and i had no trouble grippin the pole.  it actually made by pole sit a lil less uncomfy (as much as that is possible)!!!  so i guess i would def suggest u see a derm and let them know ur issues.

I second on the CeraVe lotion!! I tried a sample of it and it works wonder. I recently purchased the CeraVe PM lotion for my face and so far so good.

A bit on the pricy side (like $15 for a 3oz) but so worth it!! It justabsord into your skin and you’ll feel smooth instantly…non geasy at all.
