    Not quite sure where to put this, but…. one of my students is going to be moving away for school and wants to keep poling. She is going to school in the Station Island/Manhatten area (sp?). Do you have any recomendations I can give her?

    Thanks all

    You may want to get in contact with Amy from the forum (Also Aerial Amy if you google).  She lives in NYC and knows the studios and their locations.  I know of:

    Shockra  (Amy teaches here)

    NY Pole Dancing  (AKA…USPDF headquarters)

    Body and Pole  (Steven Retchless, Rebecca Starr, Marlo)

    S Factor

    But I am not sure of where specifically they are located.

    hi =)

    sorry to hear about your student moving, but hopefully they continue hteir pole journey!

    what level is your student? i think it matters quite a bit for where to recommend…

    carolyn chiu, michelle stanek, and i teach @ shockra on 28th and park. the classes are geared toward beginner and are 6-week series and you take the same class time and day each week– i find this is really good for beginner and intermediate. i do teach an advanced class there as well. i dont want to say too much because i don't want to sound like i'm tooting our horn, but i think this is the least intimidating studio.

    NYPD is on 52nd and 8th. all the classes are drop in and they are choreo based. you hve to pass a very rigorous testing procedure (i believe 10 invert drills classes and 5 climb and spin classes where you are able to do 75% of hte class?) before you are allowed to take any invert classes… their classes are fun though, you learn a routine piece by piece and then do it over and over on both sides. it's the only place with classes formatted this way and it seems to emphasize cardio to me. keex is on this ofrum and is an instructor there.

    B&P is on 30th and 5th ave. all the classes are drop-in. the teachers are all world-class performers. i train here myself =) i would caution that this can be an intimidating studio for beginners and the classes fill quickly. you can get a discount on the first class you sign up for– check the studio page online. the studio emphasizes pole fitness and modern dance flow. the most popular classes there are the flexibility classes, which are great.

    sfactor is on 28th and 7th. the classes are 8-week series based and they move very slowly in pole curriculum but there is nowhere better to learn flow and fluidity in my opinion. they are also much more expensive than the other studios. i started here and still take class at least once a month because it's a great place to be able to go to work just on movement.

    there's also a few studios in harlem, but i can't really speak to any of htem. i hope that helps!

    Thank you both very much. She is a begining level student. I will email her your responces and I'm sure you will be hearing from her in the next few weeks. If she has any questions I will send you a message, and probly get your contact info as well so she can get in contact with you.

    I know that one thing she is looking for is a studio that teaches similarly to ours (safely breaking down everything six ways from Sunday) and a place that she can continue to progress, learn, and have fun.
