Can you explain (or post a video or video link) so we know what you mean by front hook spin?  I've heard several spins called that.  If it's the one where you start by the side of the pole and hook your inside leg around the front of the pole, then for me, the biggest help was to turn my torso to the pole so I'm more aware of the grip with my leg and my hip doesn't go too far forward turning it into a bad chair spin.

Ahhh, I thought I'd never get that spin!  But now I do it all the time.  Ok, here's what worked for me First, I used both hands until I could do it without thinking, so like the video, but with the outside hand coming across my chest.

Second, it really, really helped me to practice the position on the floor:  hips in front of the pole, calf & back of the thigh trapping the pole–I used to start like the video, but locking with my knee made me lopsided, and feet touching.  When the feet touch, then the hips go forward and you'll lean your torso back.  That position creates the forward momentum.

Third, practicing it backwards (reverse–switch the hands so the outside hand is high like in an invert) helped, too.

Last, I practiced stepping on the outside foot, swinging the inside leg around the front of the pole and really pushing those hips forward & leaning back (like how I practiced on the floor).

That all worked better for me than throwing myself into it like I was told to do.  I hope this helps!

When I teach this I have the girls get on the ground in the position.  Knees, hips, shoulders should be in alignment.  I have them push their hips forward and imagine a penny between their butt cheeks.  Then I have them put one hand up, the other across their body and look over the shoulder of the arm that is across the body.  The biggest thing I see people doing in falling into a sitting type position.  The knees, hips and shoulders have to be lined up.

What chemgoddess said. Also, I've found that if I have students think of pushing off the pole with the back of the knee that's hooked, it pushes their hips forward where they need to be. The thing about falling back into a sitting position is that you have a lot of weight behind you, and it smothers momentum. Pushing the hips forward gets everything moving forward.

This is going to sound so weird, but my old instructor used to teach this trick by advocating ‘Mr Bean hips’. If you have ever seen the Mr Bean tv shows or movies, check out the way he walks with his hips kinda thrust forward. She would have us practice that walk and just putting our hips in and out of the position before trying the trick. It really works, and it’s fun too, lol!

^ LOL! This is by far the easiest spin for me. Now that I think about it, maybe it’s because of the Mr. Bean influence. I’m a total goof.

Good job:) I am in the same boat. I have to keep practicing on this one. The back hook spin was so easy got it almost right away but for some reason the front hook has been giving me issues as well.

I haven’t learn the back hook yet, look at the clip, count to four and on four, let your hand out and move with momentum. Its goodto have a pole at home, because otherwise I will just keep going back to pole class to learn, I kept practicing and I got it : )

Yeah I think I will do that on my class on friday. Unfort I don't have my own pole yet so have to wait for class. But with some luck and a lot of practice I will conquer this move.
