Request for Pull Up help…
Posted by JeHanne on September 24, 2011 at 5:20 pmHello everyone! I have been working on upper body strengthening for months and am at a stand still with pull ups. I can pole hold and do push ups on the floor but when I try to use my pole to pull my body up… I think I lift a centimer.
Can anyone share any moves that improve the ability to do Pull Ups on the pole? I would love to hear what may help me build strength. One of my dream moves is to do pull up climbs.
I would appreciate suggestions!!! Thanks.

Try doing the negative… So start from a pole climb, the feet are not touching the foor then try lowering down from a pole hold position, making sure te shoulder are engaged. So instead of pulling up your lowering down… The key is to do it with control.

That's perfect advice from Veena! Like she said, do it with control – let your arms out at an even pace so they don't give out before your feet are on the floor. Each time you do one count out how many seconds it takes to lower yourself and try to make it at least one second longer on the next one!

Thanks RikkiL! Great suggestion to count it out and make it slower. Also will keep arms out slow and controlled. Thanks KittyNyanNyan! Like the not hear my landing part!
Tomorrow is my upper body strength workout, will incorporate this move with all these great tips!!!

doing negatives is right on… also, don't reach up too high when you first start with pullups! if you reach up just a couple inches, your arms can stay bent and your biceps will be engaged at a point in the range of motion where they are probably strongest… its much easier to do a pullup if you keep your arms bent; as you get better you can reach up higher and higher.

Thank you Amy! I just started using your Tuesday Tip shoulder mount prep last week and love it. I have incorporated it into my 'core' strengthening (I alternate core and upper body strengthening days).

Thank you Amy! The only part I do not intentionally condition is legs since they are 'strong like bull'. LOL. Free dance/floor work has plenty of moves to keep them movin. Instead of getting frustrated with what I can't do… I made a plan to get me on the path to what I want. Much more productive for me to focus on.
Today is 'the' day where I practice these pull up tips. My ultimate goal with this is to do a spinning pole hang where I slowly pull my entire body up. That's gorgeous! I also want to do the scissor climb. For now… will focus on the reverse pull ups.
