I have seen the pros do one-handed power spins that require large momentum (like the phoenix) on spinning poles.  This makes my head explode, bc I can only do one-handeds on static or my wrist turns I I fly off.  Does anyone know the trick?

I wish I knew.  I guess the pros are just super strong (???).  It's not just one-handed spins that are impossible for me on spinning poles,  Split grips are also very awkward.  I feel as if I would break something.

Work on strengthening your wristband shoulders. Veena has some lessons that are very effective! While warming up I like to use sweat bands to help warm the joint so come practice time I’m strong, warm and ready to spin!

you can "cheat" a large spin by using more shoulder and core strength to hold your body away from the pole… i dont know of any pro who actually goes into a phoenix on spin the way that they would on static. you don't throw your body into it as much– it's more like a TG lift on spin pole than an actual phoenix, if that makes sense.

it also helps to have a skinnier pole =)

Ah, I found a vid of it on youtube.  Emotioncatcher.  Awesome.  But you are all correct, I would need hella wrist-strength. Thanks for the replies.

Be sure that they are actually using a spinning pole, sometimes people have a hard time figuring out if the dancer is on static or spin. I don't know of anyone who uses the same technique for spinning holds as for static spins.

i saw miss dirdybirdy doing one handed spins on a spinning pole. she just "hangs" on the pole with one hand while the pole continues to spin. it looks so beautiful.

i would love to be able to do that, too, but it´s so hard on my 50mm pole.

@brumby: thanks. i don´t know which video you found. some days ago someone thought my phoenix was on a spinning pole (like veena said, sometimes it´s hard to see if it´s a spinning or static pole). i only can do a twisted grip lift in spinning mode

I have also never seen anyone do a phoenix on spinny what I can remember but it wouldn't surprise me if someone succeeds to do it in the future though:). Nothing seems to be impossible herehttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif.

I can not for my life hold my 45-mm with only one hand (more than a fraction of a second at least) on spinny no matter which grip aid I use. However, it seems possible to do it on a 38 judging from Bobbi's solo in her DVD "Pole Ulitmatum" for the ones of you who've got it. She hangs on with only one hand in the beginning and it looks great. Maybe people with big hands can do it on a 45, I don't know.

Shimmy does one from a climb here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOZD9hTbwOY, also at 0:40 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNDL4XSHOu0 It's a bit of a phoenix/deadlift hybrid though I think, like Amy said, I can't imagine you could do it without being able to deadlift without using momentum.

    She's ridiculously strong!
