    Hi,

I've been poling on a static pole for about a year, and now I'm trying to figure out how to do things on spin mode (xpole expert). I've been on spinny mode for a couple of months now, but I still can't get the feel of it.  I end up spinning way too fast or not spinning at all. How do you enter into it.. is it mostly with like and x ankle climb, but with only a SLIGHT tap of the foot to make it spin?

I tried to do a straightedge type mount into a helicopter, but then I bring my legs into the pole (like a crucifix) it starts spinning REALLY fast! I guess I should do a scorpio hook instead so that I'm not all tucked in?

Has anyone taken Karol Helms' spinny workshops? I'd like to hear what was learned…

Any nuggets of information to offer me (combos to do), while starting out on spinny?

Hi Calbear!  I teach spin mode weekly 🙂  The absolute best way to start spin mode is to get a feel for it – so this means doing simple things on spin.  One of the first things I have students do is lift into a spin and go directly into a pole sit – from here stretch your legs out and tuck them back in and get a feel for what the pole does based on your momentum with the legs out then how it speeds up as you tuck in.

On of the problems I had with spin mode was that I kep trying to do all of these advanced moves and inverts on spin without really getting a feel for how to gain and loose momentum.  I would get scared and sick and then put it aside and not work on it.

Instead of trying to invert right away – think of spin mode as a new apparatus, you will work it differently.

I recommend working all your basic spins, climbs and upright poses on spin before going inverted simpley because by working on those things you'll begin getting a good feel for how fast or slow you have to enter things and you'll also learn how to keep momentum by moving with the pole instead of against it – which I still do a lot in inverted spin mode work.

i love spinning mode! i think the others mentioned already the most important points.

i think on spinning mode it´s very important to know what comes next. if you start with a trick where your body or parts of it are far away and the next trick will be really close to the pole you have to start with less momentum.

if you start close to the pole and will get more away from it with the next trick you won´t spin too fast.

i also have a little tutorial on spinning mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqKszB7Y-Ns

it´s not as detailed as amy´s tipps, but maybe it also will help you ^^

just wanted to add that it is also important how thight your pole is. i sometimes loosen mine a bit when i don´t spin enough and when i like it a bit slower i tighten it ^^
