Miss Pole Dance Canda help
Posted by JadeMeadows on December 6, 2011 at 12:50 pmHi everyone!
I am considering entering Miss Pole Dance Canada for next year (what better way to learn and meet other people?) but I am having some difficulty figuring out what I need to do to apply (I know it's not open yet for next year), but I was wondering if I would need a video of myself. Has anyone else gone for MPD Canada and happens to? (And if they use spinny poles or not)
Also…what would be the best areas to focus on for a competition like this? I will be taking adult Jazz and Hip Hop dance classes soon to help me round out my dance styles (I'm a partner dancer mainly…swing, salsa, blues, etc). I guess I'm wondering if there is a guide to competeing somewhere that would be useful to go off of https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
Thanks everyone and I hope you're all getting your Christmas shopping done early…I know I'm not. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

I don´t know something about this competition, but I´m sure if you don´t find someone here who can answer your question, you will find a homepage and someone there who you can ask.
I never competed, but I read a lot here on the forum. If you search for competition, you will find many useful tipps for preparing and also for the competition itself.
Do you know when (in which month maybe) the competition will be? So you could make a plan what tricks you want to master (and have the time to master^^), when to start with the choreo, make the outift,….

just wanted to add this link: http://www.misspoledancecanada.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6
you can read here how you can get into the competition. It´s from 2011, but I´m sure it´ll be the same next year or at least nearly the same =)

I should probably do a seach on that =) Honestly, I have no idea, that's part of the problem. The website they have isn't very good. But if it;s like this year then the competition would be in September. I doubt they move it around very much.

Hi Jade, what part of Canada are you from/live in? I'm a great white northener myself, from Ontario, just north west of Toronto. 🙂
I wish I could help you more but I don't know much about the competition itself. I know that in past years the competition has always been in Vancouver, BC but I have heard it rumored that it will be in TO in 2012. I don't know whether that is good or bad for you, but I'm looking forward to going if it is in Toronto. 🙂 I also know that the organizers for MPDC have been known to appear on this forum from time to time, so hopefully someone will find your inquiry and be able to help you out more. Another option is to try to speak with or email Shanyn Pollard, our current MPDC champion. She runs SASS studios in Stoney Creek (near Hamilton, ON) and I'm sure she could put you in contact with the right people to answer your questions.

Hi Jade 🙂
Dustbunny hit the nail on the head.
As far as I can remember, all of the gals submitted videos of themselves. Actualy if you hit up youtube and type in "Miss pole dance canada submission" some of the videos are still up.
There are two different categories, ametuer and Pro I think. This years Pro submissions were juried by the actual judges and Ametuer was judged by online votes (to get into the show).
You can also ask Hoddska on here as she was in the Ametuer division this year 🙂
Rumour has it that Toronto will be the city for next years show, but you never know.
Happy Poling!

Hey Ladies,
You can keep visiting the website for details and join the FB page as well but as far as registering for the competition goes, you do have to submit a video. You're not required to do spin and static in your subsmission video, but you should really focus on showcasing your strengths.
They're looking for flexibility, strength, tricks and overall performance teqnique. I used to really focus on my tricks, as most of you know, but learning to focus on captivating the audience and developing a personal style is what has made such a huge difference in my performances….and having fun!
So, with that being said, when making your submission video try to focus on your personal style and what unique aspects you'd bring to the competition as opposed to doing trick after trick 🙂
And yes, it will be hosted in Toronto, Ontario this year!
I hope that helps….
Shanyn

I agree with what's been said before. you can look up videos from previous
and work on your style and strengh……
I also always notice that the level goes up every year, so thats a bit scary https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif
they should make an amateur amateur div. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif (for me hihihii)
Good luck!!! :)))

Hi ladies!!!
You have all been so much help and thank you for the information Shanyn. I have such a better idea now of what I should be focusing on. I was watching the amateur entries. Tara Meyer…I have nothing against her =S I agree with you Mimi, I would enter that div too. Lol.
As far as it seems though, my fiance isn't too keen on me entering this year as it will only be a month or two after our wedding https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif which I do understand as I've been stressed out because of all the stuff he's been wanting to do too. Lol. Hopefully it will be in Van next year again as I live in Kelowna so Toronto is a bit of a financial investment for me.
Keep me posted about your training Mimi =)
Thanks all!
