Crash Mat
Posted by SadieNikole on December 16, 2011 at 4:38 amI’ve been researching online and in the forums here for a crash mat. The two that stand out is the one from Lil Minx and the one from Yoga Direct. Does anyone have one or the other and would like to share on whether or not you like your purchase???

I think a lot of people have the Yoga Direct mat on here, it's pink and black, correct? I've heard good things about them. I wasnt aware LM was even making a mats, probably pricey. I just throw my couch cushions down. 🙂

LM is actually about the same price. But I had seen a review where the Yoga Direct one had torn in two weeks. So I was concerned.

We've been using the Yoga Direct on in our studio for about 6 months now and it's not showing any wear but you certainly cannot use it with heels.
I feel it's a bit mushy and soft to be stepping off of to invert but it's usable and more important makes learning safe.
I have one made years ago by a company who decided it was too much of a pain to make any more of them for so small of a customer base which is a shame as they are still in excellent condition and not mushy at all.
There are other companies, and I'm not familiar with the construction of the LM mat, who make mats that may be better long term but for the price the Yoga Direct mat is a good deal.

PS…order the YD one on Amazon…you can usually find it for less than $200 plus free shipping.

Just my 2 cents. I have no problem inverting off my yoga direct mat. Mine has not torn. It is very soft. I recommend that one to any girl getting a crash mat. It’s 5″ thick. All the others are only 2″, and I don’t see that being much of a cushion. There was 1 4″ one I found but it was expensive.

I am thinking i need to get one now. I have been dancing on carpet but hubby is making me a new wood floor. I think it will be easier with a mat instead of messing with the pillows. If only i could find an online coupon to bring down the price a touch!

Lyme Lyte…this is the cheapest you're going to find a 4" or thicker crash mat…at $189 plus free super saver shipping. I've been pricing these for years as most of my students have home crash mats to I'm always looking them up.

They seem expensive, but if you were to go to Joanne’s to buy just the foam, you’d spend a ton of money just on that. Foam is expensive!!

OK, just ordered my mat from YD! Should be here Wednesday.

OH…you got it the Yoga Direct mat FROM Amazon! OK..I thought you got it straight from the YD website.
It's odd that they offer the discount on Amazon but not on their website.

just going to pipe in here for a minute…"pricey but at least we will be safe" mats do not make you safe, you make yourself safe by not doing things beyond where you are. Now that said mats are nice to have so if you do have an opps hopefully you don't get hurt. But just because they are there don't feel like oh I can try that because I have mats I'm safe.
