  • Hip “pop” – anyone else?

    Hello Veeners,

Two summers ago during teacher training, my body was pushed to its limits – and I developed an odd “popping” hip in my left hip flexor. It is not constant – it comes and goes seemingly randomly, and I’m not able to identify any triggers. It doesn’t HURT, per se, but it is uncomfortable. It limits my range of motion during range of motion exercises (imagine leg straight, pointed to ceiling, and then make large circles with entire leg). I can do both front splits and very nearly the side split – but these don’t aggravate it at all! It’s audible – people can hear it from several feet away, even over the music in class. It feels like a slip or pop of something over the pelvic bone – I asked my doctor if it could be the IT bands and she looked at me like I was nuts (of course i can’t get it to pop when I am in for something). Does anyone else have the same problem? If so, have you been able to identify what makes it flare up? Do you have a remedy to make it go away? Am I just old as dirt and have to make peace with a gimp hip? Lol!

When I had a yoga ball to sit on all day I don't remember any problems.  It started getting cold and the cat wants to be on my lap all the time and well no more yoga ball.  I'm using a padded wooden chair now and noticed my hip will pop during leg lifts.  It's not loud, but I can feel it.  It's like my left hip is going over a speed bump at a certain point in my range of motion, but the right is still completely smooth.  If I lift my leg really slow it's not as bad but still there.  I can't say the chair caused the issue, I just noticed the hip popping around the same time.  The yoga ball definately helped with my posture and core though.

Thanks a ton for the link, Amy. I searched the Internet and could never find anything that sounded like what I was experiencing – but I was searching for hip “pop” instead of “snap.”
    Thanks again!
