Ladies! Have any of you tried either of these programs? I keep hering great things about them and would LOVE to try them. I have very low grade asthma and that's my only reservation with trying them. When I say low grade, I mean if I huff too hard, I get a little wheezy, if I am around smoke I get a little wheezy, or if I laugh I start gettig a rumbly cough. It may not even be true asthma. The wheezing isn' t so bad I can't breathe. It may just be sensitive lungs… Anyways, it can be prevented with an inhaler before exercise.

Anyways, has anyone had results with these programs??? It would be cool if someone has tried BOTH and can tell me which one they like BETTER! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I feel like such a fat cow right now from these stupid medications! I went from 125 lbs to 145 lbs!!!!! Yes that was over a period of like 3 years, but still, I am so unhappy with my weight, and no matter what I do I can't shed the extra porkiness. Since I started poling, I went from 138 to 145, which may be some muscle, cuz I was NO MUSCLE before hand, but the muscle is making my fat protrude out MORE!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif

What about the zumba DVDs??? I've seen mixed reviews with those (both the original and the newer version.)

Overall I am tryng to lose weight and build my strength up more.

Do you have 2 hours a night on average to dedicate to P90X?  If you exercised this much every day for 90 days doing pretty much ANYTHING you will have good results.  I know that insanity is worse (there are a few threads on here about both of them).  Before making an investment check your local library.  I know mine has P90X and the Zumba dvds, along with a lot of others.

They had the zumba DVDs, no P90x or insanity, although Tony Horton's book is there. Maybe I'll start with taking fitness classes several nights a week and work up to more.

Talk to your doctor about the asthma and controlling it with exercise. Very important!!!

P90X was too macho and boring for me but I know many people do it. From the people I know that have done it… they are unable to sustain it because of the sacrifices they must make in their lives to afford those hours and hours a day.

I agree with Chem that you should first find programs available maybe for rent or viewing before committing financially.

Doing exercise with consistency that targets your specific goals is the key. There is a website I like called collagevideo.com that has a ton of exercise DVDs of all types and you can preview them. This can help you see if you 'jive' with the program before you even buy it.

The best workout plan is the one you'll actually do and do consistantly.  I've know several people without asthma or other problems that could not get through P90X or Insanity.  It really takes a huge amount of dedication to make it through and will eat up tons of your time.

My friend bought P90X and I went through one session without problems, but decided it wasn't for me.  Tons of different pushup variations, but its still pushups and I think they're boring.  Maybe while your at the library get one of those magic eye 3D books to put under you so it's more fun to get closer and farther away from the floor for an hour.

I also have asthma and have done both programs! I liked P90X about a million times better. It made me stronger overall, and the trainer (Tony Horton) is so charming and likeable that it made the work go by faster. The trainer for Insanity (Shaun T) is honestly kind of annoying, in my opinion.

In regards to asthma: Typically, I would just bring my inhaler with me and take a few puffs whenever I was starting to wheeze, and that kept me going for the rest of the workout. Insanity will leave you VERY breathless, since it's constant running and jumping. P90X will give you a bit more of a break on some days as far as asthma goes, since sometimes you'll be doing weight training or yoga.

P90X is really freaking hard, but I found it so rewarding. I was just finishing it when I got started with pole seriously, and it made all the strength moves so much easier. I think a good alternative if you really don't have time, though, is Tony's Ten-Minute Trainer, which utilizes a lot of combination moves so that you're working your whole body at once. You can do from ten minutes to half an hour every day, and if you do it with a lot of intensity, you will see results (though obviously not anything like the results of P90X).

Let me know if you have any other specific questions about either of the programs!

I've tried Insanity. It was fun and very intense! Insanity has a lot of CARDIO. There were times I wanted to just past out on the floor. I was dripping in sweat and just seems like the pounds were melting off me. At first it was hard to stick with but when I saw and felt the weight coming off I decided to stay committed. So give it a try!

I know quite a few who have had good results with the Jillian 30 day shred.  I used to love the TurboJam workouts and had even looked into getting the Chalean Extreme (similar to P90X but less time involved per day).  I have a workout that was developed by a personal trainer but I cannot seem to locate it right now.  I will see if I have it bookmarked at work and post it on Monday.

I was looking at some of the Jilian Michaels DVDs. Much more pocket friendly.

I would also check with the doc before starting an exercise program.

I'm doing Bodyrock, it's high intensity training, typical workouts are between 10-15 minutes with some taking longer, and best of all it's absolutely free. http://www.bodyrock.tv/

Some people like a longer workout – I can't manage that, I work better on a short intense workout period – depends on your body. Personally I love it, and it's really helped with my poling. I can deadlift into moves that I couldn't before, yay!

    Good luck!

I love Jillian's Shred and her Ripped. Good solid workouts that you can make harder by getting deeper into your movements and using heavier weights as you move up. Hubby and I do them together, or should say did and are getting back into it. They are between 20-24 minutes long which is a lot easier to fit into your day. If we are having a "off" feeling day we do an easier one or if my shoulder is hating on me we do one that doesn't have as much plank moves.

I’ve done both! If you’re going for weight loss, I’d say insanity. Your legs will burn, but it’s fun. P90x is definitely good for upper body/core strength, but I fidnt follow the diet plan so while I got stronger, I didn’t really lose body fat. It does take up a lot of time, though. You could look into p90x2. It just came out. I started it last week and so far like it better than the original. Workouts are shorter, more core focused, and he incorporates foam rolling and resistance stretching. Anyway, if you have more questions or want more in depth reviews, let me know!
