So about 4 weeks ago, I pulled my groin.  It doesn't hurt when I walk, but anytime I'm in a straddle stretch, I can barely move to loosen up.  I think it happened because I was overstreching.

Has anyone dealt with groin injuries before? How long before it healed?  I think I am going to have to forego stretching for a couple of weeks.

Healing time will vary depending on how bad the pull was and how you treat it. Heat and massage or foam rolling would be good for it. See a Dr if it doesn't start feeling better soon.

Would you recommend to stop any abbductor stretches until it’s healed?

I would do a few days of heat and massage before stretching again. Then start with gentle stretching. Listen to your body. Massage is great because it will help prevent scar tissue from forming.

    Thanks Veena!

This groin injury makes me feel like I’m totally ruining any flexibility progress I had made before the injury! I can’t stand it!

When I strained my neck the doctor told me I did the right thing in resting it, applying heat and massaging it for about 1 1/2 – 2 weeks (about the time I went in cuz it was still bothering me.) I think Veena said what any doctor would say, rest, heat, massage, then in a week or two GENTLE stretching exercises. You might even contact a doctor to see if there are any good exercises that you could get the rehabilitate it. My doc gave me several for my neck, so there might be several they can give you for your groin as well.

I have no credentials to provide any type of suggestions on care but I can empathize! If what you are trying at home does not provide relief… get to a Doc.

I pulled my left hamstring 6 years ago and STILL get twinges of pain in straddles sometimes. I think most dancers (if not all) have lingering injuries that require care and consideration from time to time.

You are not ruining your flexibility… I hope things heal quickly for you, it's beyond frustrating.

Thanks for the advice!  Will heat and massage, and do very light stretching for the next two weeks.  I'm going to avoid any straddle stretches because that's what irritates it the most.
