ive been poling for about 3 months and i still feel like i cant hold the pole that well. its def not a slick pole issue, i hav small hands and a 45mm, is it because my hands just arent that strong yet? or does hand strength really hav anything to do with it? i see the one handed spins and i just cannot hold on with one hand like i see many girls do effortlessly!

Grip strength is something that needs to be developed. I was not doing one-handed spins after 3 months of pole either. The 45mm is a good choice of diameter for you. Every time you practice you are developing more hand strength, but there are other hand strength exercises you could do, such as squeezing a tennis ball. Be patient with yourself, you’ll get there!

Wow, I thought I responded to this.  After 3 months I would say hand and general arm strength.  A one handed spin is NOT easy to do…lets not even get into things like reverse grabs!  In order for my student to get used to using onely one hand I will have them practice fireman spins and one they are spinning to place that lower hand on their knee.  Once they get the feel for that then I will let them start practicing getting into it with only one hand.  I will not let them get there though until they can demonstrate that they can keep that arm and shoulders engaged instead of falling into "ear to shoulder".

I also love my powerball gyroscope for building grip and forearm strangth.

LOVE using a power ball! It's the best thing for improving grip strength and so covenient to use. I use it when I'm driving back and forth to work.

I have this same problem! Part of it is slippage, however. But if you google things like "how to increase gip strength" you'll find a lot of info
