    Hey all,

I've had a 45 chrome X-Pert for a year now and still find that it is incredible slippery, under any condition. It's been in various locations, I've cleaned it with vodka and acetone, I've warmed it up, I've warmed myself up, but still find that I have to strain even for a simple sit or stand, let alone anything more advanced. The studio I attend bought two new 45 chromes last month and they are also impossible for anyone to use. This is quite a problem as I have a competition soon that will use 45s, and I haven't been able to practice properly!

My studio had an old model of a 45 chrome that was perfectly grippy. My question is, are the new 45 chrome models slippery by nature, or is it something else?

    Thanks for any input!

I took some fine sandpaper to my pole, roughed it up a little gripping the paper around the pole, and doing horizontal ridges. It helped a lot. Be sure not to sand it up and down the vertical ridges don’t have as much grip.

I have an old one and once warmed up it is great! I wonder if it is different now!

I have a new chrome xpole 45mm and mine has been fine after a few poling sessions. At first it was impossible to grip. I use a climbers chalk on my hands sometimes and I think that might have scratched it up a bit more than polers chalk (fella seems to think it’s more gritty). Maybe try that ? X

I have a newer chrome.. It’s totally fine but takes longer to warm
Up and usually I have to clean it with soap and water to help the process

If you have a clothes/fabric steamer give that a try, its how I clean my poles now…maybe it may help your slipping issue.

My 45 chrome is a little over a year old as well, and it’s also still slippery unless I have grip on. (I wonder if their chrome coating has changed since then- people don’t seem to be having the same problem now!) You definitely don’t want to become dependent on grip, but you might want to try a few out to see if there’s a combination that works with your chemistry and your pole just to even the playing field between practice at home and practice at the studio.

Lyme Lyte, I have been considering sanding my xpert as well to rough it up and finally get some grip on it but I was scared of ruining it, what grit of sand paper did you use and did u wet or dry sand it?

    Thanks!!!

Just fine dry sandpaper.  Be sure to do it AROUND the pole, not in Vertical directions.  I read someplace on here that when somebody is watching you pole, they are not looking at your pole thinking, "wow that isn't as shiney", or "wow, that looks roughed up".  Actually you can't even tell.  Check out a few of my video (on the black floor) cause that is when it was sanded.  You cant see any difference.  Good luck!

you shouldn't sand chrome since it is just a coating and you can sand it off or make rough spots.

Yeah nymp, I sanded off part of the coating and roughed it up…..grippier now. I got the idea from other on this site. 🙂
