Circus Equipment Question! Lyra, Cyr Wheel, German Wheel, aerial cube
Posted by JBStarryEyedGirl on February 14, 2012 at 10:35 amHi ladies! I am searching for a particular piece of circus style equipment, the problem is.. I can't remember what this apparatus is called!
I watched a YT video of a girl in her backyard, she had a giant wheel mounted onto a spinning base, I think it had 2 rings (like a gryoscope) and if memory serves me right, she had a pole inside the hoop that was detachable.
I have no idea how I found the video, didn't bookmark, and now I wondering if anyone here knows what on earth I am talking about?
I was kinda thinking that maybe it was a custom created rig, but if anyone can help me out, I'd love you forever! LOL.
Here is a link to some similar apparatus for anyone else wondering what I mean:

OHHH I've seen these before! They are so cool!
Not sure if this helps any, but this link might have some info about the names of it (if it's the correct thing) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_gymnastics

Thanks Annieloo, but unfortuantely it doesn't have the info I need.
I'm still searching for this youtube video! I still can't remember how I found it, or what I was searching for? In the video she is in a garden, lots of plants and trees. But that's about all I recall. Can't remember what she looked like, or what tricks she was doing.
And, I am pretty convinced that it is most likely a custom piece of equipment. =(

Are you logged into youtube? Can you check your youtube history and see if the video is still in there?
-
@Lenee Pooh, I looked this video up probably over a year ago.. But I did already check my history and bookmarks, with no luck!
I'm on YT right now looking for it. This is very frustrating!!! LOL.
I just have no idea how I found her video. I've searched for lyra, lyre, circus hoop, german wheel, cyr wheel, mounted wheels, stationary spinning wheel, rotating wheel, outdoor lyra, outside circus, backyard aerial, backyard pole, etc.. Ugh!!!
I remember her performance as being very graceful.
I really just wanted a better look at her apparatus. I can't remember if the circle was bigger than her, or just bigger than a normal lyra. And I wanted to see how it was mounted. Argh!!

You can check your video watching history in youtube. If you go to the top of the youtube page and click your username, a drop down box will come up and one of the options in that box is history. It'll say only so many videos (mine said 58) but when you go to the bottom of the list you can tap 'load more videos' and it'll show you more. I just went through a bunch of mine and I think it goes back farther than a year but I'm not positive. You may luck up and find it in there! HTH

Was it like a modified gyroscope ride, or something actually made? I know so many people with one of a kind flow/dance toys. I've never seen anything quite like what you described. The gyroscope thing looks like this: http://www.gyrogym.com/images/188_gyro_shoot_009.jpg They made these new gyroscope hoops (if you're a hooper): http://thehoophub.co.uk/new-hoop-design-the-gyrodoop/ I was a hooper before I found pole, so I LOVE the circusy stuff. I actually started pole in prep for silks since I didn't have room for silks in my apt, and I love poling so much!

@Lenee Pooh, No luck on the history. I either looked it up way long ago, or maybe I wasn't logged in when I was watching it.
@Dwiizie, I'm honestly not 100% sure.. It looks like a stationary, mounted Cyr wheel (like a large lyra you could stand in) attached to a base, and only the base itself rotates. She had a pole that screwed into the middle of the wheel base but didn't quite touch the top of the wheel. She did pole tricks, then removed the pole, and used the wheel to do tricks and dance. I've never seen anything like that since.. Darn it! LOL

OK, I'm bumping this thread up just one last time in the vain hopes that maybe someone will read the description and possibly help me find this video! LOL. I think I have googled every single variation of the item I can come up with, and still no luck. It was SUCH an interesting piece of equipment, and I am sure that I am going to go crazy trying to figure out what it is!

I've hunted for anything matching this description. A few of us hoopers were talking about going in on a Cyr wheel together, so I've REALLY been researching these and similar circus things. I can't find a thing! I can only imagine it's something the person custome made for themselves or had manufactured for them specifically if its not something that you come across when looking all over. I sure would like to know, it sounds awesome. Maybe you can start designing one yourself?

Not what you're looking for, but this is pretty cool: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4042/4321014304_7360211b69.jpg

Is this it?

If so, the girl in that top pic is my aerial instructor, she calls it a "revolving hoop."

Here they use that hoop at 1:25. It doesn't have the pole in the center, though

Is it a modified version of this?
