Posted by jeaninemarie on February 28, 2012 at 11:54 amHi all! Im new to this site and Im so glad I found it…so nice to have a resource like this and to talk with other passionate polers :). Soo..aybe someone can help me…im struggling to hit a tg aysha from gemini…i can do it from a caterpillar climb but for some reason i cant get the technique from a gemini…as soon as i get my arms into position i loose grip. I do have tiny hands but being i can do it from another starting point i dont think this is my issue…any tips ladies? 🙂

Do you mean going into the TG ayesha from apprentice, which is like a gemini except your torso is parallel to the floor, and you're holding on with one or both hands? If so, what exactly is causing the problem? I found that the balance was a little tricky, and I had to grip the pole tightly between my legs while putting my hands into TG, and that I also had to come off the pole more slowly than coming into it from a regular invert, because you're kind of twisting around, so it's harder to balance.

@ amy…i mean a scorp. Not a gemini. I always confuse the two…@ elektra its that twisting motion i find tricky since i dont have my front to the pole like in a regular invert. My top hand gets caught behind my inside leg and as i twist i lose grip quickly

You need to release your grip with the top hand in order to get your shoulder out and twist into position. You need to be pushing more with the bottom hand until then and using the hooked leg to stabilize your balance.

Have you tried moving into position while leaving your legs in crucifix rather than a leg hook? I found in working out moving my hands and shoulder round, this helped because it meant I wasn't as worried about the leg grip. Once you've got the shoulder movement sorted, then you could go back to trying from the scorpio?

@amy thanks ill try this later and let you know how it goes. @ sassa…i finally nailed it from a crucifix the other day which like you said is easier especially when learning the positioning. Gonna strengthen my aysha and work on getting into it from a darn scorpio 🙂

@amy…from a forearm grip ayesha how close should your chest be to the pole…I cant seem to get rounded enough in my upper body so that my pelvis stays more neutral than imprinted. i feel like I need to master the forarm first, before advancing into the elbow grip, then TG.
@jeaninemarie….I have a video of Cat Gennero ….I'll try to find the link. It's great…very slow..can see all the hand placements and stuff..

Ooh, this took me ages! I think I had the same problem: my shoulder would get caught on the pole and my top hand would start peeling off. I'm not sure exactly what I changed but here's what I think helped me:
1. Practice going from a reverse aysha into tg aysha. I found once I was comfortable with this, going from scorpio to tg aysha was really just a shortcut version of scorpio-reverse aysha-tg aysha.
2. You need to be comfortable releasing your legs and taking all your weight on your arms before any of the turning into aysha.
3. When you see other people do it, it looks like they "push" their shoulder forward right past the pole. When you actually do it, it's more of an "unwinding" feeling – at least for me.
4. Play around with how high or low you grip with your top hand. I usually regrasp a little lower down the pole from where my hand originally is in the invert.
5. Grabbing the pole with the bottom hand I used to kind of sit up and twist a bit and it didn;t work. You need more of a reach back behind you. Maybe work on nice form in a "dragon" (the scorpio with hands on the pole that you do before the tg aysha) and check in a mirror/film to make sure you're doing it nicely. That's another thing I was doing just before it clicked.

@pegasus, the forearm ayesha uses no core engagement at all and it's sort of the opposite of an elbow grip ayesha. if you're workign towards ayesha, i would strongly recommend one handed caterpillars, NOT the forearm version. have you seen this? http://aerialamy.com/blog/2011/07/12/tuesday-tips-elbow-grip-ayesha/

@ pegasus thanks, id love to see it! @ cinara those are EXACTLY my issues. My shoulder gets caught and once its finally unwound i have lost my top hand grip and from there its a wrap. Ill work out your suggestions and hopefully have some luck…i dont believe.ive ever done a reverse aysha…will have to check that out…also, my chest is still way too close to the pole once i do get into my aysha…i think i need to lean out or round my back to get more separation? Im very wobbly up there still which makes me think im too close. When i do my tg handspring the aysha i end up in feels just right and im sturdy…something else to work on

So the reverse aysha youre basically just leaving your shoulder in front of the pole instead of unwinding it to bring it around, right? Hmm

I'm not sure I'm familiar with this move you guys are calling the "reverse ayesha." The move I know as a "reverse ayesha" is an inverted straddle where the grip is an elbow grip behind the back. Since I can't imagine transitioning from that to a tg ayesha, you must be talking about something else. Can someone describe it?

@amy…thanks. No wonder it feels a little wrong.. Not a lot of core engagement. i have to say my core is my strongest part, so moves that dont use it that much dont feel right.

@ amy i just checked out your ayasha tutorial on your blog and omg so helpful! That photo showing your back arched incorrectly is exactly how ive been doing it…now i have a place to start from…makes so much sense now :). @ pegasus…ill check it out and im sure ill find some helpful tips
